A
Shoreline Dream w/ Ulrich Schnauss
Neverchanger
PS, US Melodipsych rockers A Shoreline Dream started piecing "neverChanger",
(a song touching on the never ending & confusing reality of life
repeating itself over and over) back in November 2007. Coincidentally
soon before that they found out while on tour with Innaway (their
psych peers) that Ulrich became a fan of theirs after purchasing "Avoiding
the Consequences". He sent out an email to all his fans saying
he was currently listening to the album. Swiftly Ryan Policky (vocalist,
guitarist & songwriter of the track) got in touch with Ulrich
to see if they could collaborate. A few short weeks after that "neverChanger"
came back to life as a co-produced effort. Kramer (producer of Low,
Dot Allison & Urge Overkill) finished off the mastering. Named
one of URB Magazine's NEXT 100 for 2008, A Shoreline Dream has been
best described as a "melodipsych / post rock" band combining
lush sampled textures, organic instrumentation, and vocals layered
like a synth similar in vein to bands such as Ride, Slowdive and Sigur
Rós. Originating in Barnum, Colorado they are steadily reaching
out to an international fan base, which includes producers Ulrich
Schnauss and Kramer (Ween / Butthole Surfers) currently working with
them on upcoming material. When they formed in 2005 they all decided
to take a stand against the restrictions of a normal label and formed
their own (latenight weeknight records). In the Fall of 2006, a shoreline
dream released their debut album "avoiding the consequences"
with a full scale attack using Ryan's house as collateral, garnering
the band attention on several samplers for Landmark Theatres, Urban
Outfitters, The Sundance Film Festival, Paste Magazine among others.
Critics from Filter Magazine, Paste Magazine, XLR8R, Skyscraper, and
Westword gave the band very high marks. The band released the EP "Coastal"
in July of 2007, which has landed them spots on samplers for Vice
Magazine, Paste Magazine, XLR8R, Landmark Theatres and Urban Outfitters.
In September of 2007 the band toured with INNAWAY, and they are currently
co-producing a track with Ulrich Schnauss and setting up a short tour
with him, Soundpool and Experimental Aircraft for July of 2008 in
Austin, Dallas & Denver.

PS, US This is a twisted joy ride through the four boys' private party.
Soothing parts that remind you of Captain Beefheart & My Bloody

are left feeling that there is something they are trying to tell you,
on second listen it smacks you in the face.

Like it or Not EP
PS, US The Australian sextet is back with their 3rd single from their
critically lauded new album Places Like This. The band has been on
a tear since the album's release in fall of 2007, selling over 25,000
copies in the US in under a year. On top of that, they made their
debut on the Billboard charts in the first week of release, peaked
at #3 on the CMJ Top 200, and sold out several clubs nationwide on
their fall 2007 tour. With the Like It or Not EP, the band finally
records "One Heavy February" and "Beef in Box,"
which are two long-time crowd favorites from their live shows, to
accompany the single version of "Like It or Not". To top
it off there is a "Like It or Not" remix by one of 2008
biggest buzz bands, El Guincho.

Berberian, John
Middle Eastern Rock
PS, UK Yep, it's John Berberian, Master of the Oud! Long before there
was any such thing as "World Music", John was experimenting
in his native New York City, both within the traditional Armenian
music community, and with folk, rock and jazz musicians who admired
his Oud artistry. And so this unknown gem, Middle Eastern Rock! Unsympathetically
packaged as almost some kind of old-school belly-dance meets raga
rock record, it is in fact a masterpiece of the highest order. Full
of multi-percussive grooves on drums and dumbeg, searing solos from
fuzz guitars and of course, John on the Oud. We cannot urge you more
to experience this record!

Black Kids
I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You
PS, UK Jacksonville, Fla., five-piece Black Kids aren't the type to
go on YouTube offering instructional videos for their shit-hot dance
moves, and it's hard to blame 'em. You practice for hours, pour out
a lifetime of blood, sweat, and tears, and then one day there you
are, impressing this awesome indie-pop girl with your Chris Brown-caliber
(OK, Napoleon Dynamite-caliber) steps. You're both having fun-- so
much fun, in fact, she wants you to reveal your tricks to her mook
boyfriend. Well, what-the-fuck-ever.
"I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You"
(sometimes referred to as "I'm Not Gonna Teach You", but
the band prefers the long title) describes, you guessed it, pretty
much just such a situation. From Black Kids' MySpace and their Wizard
of Ahhhs demo, this little juke joint grabs attention like a breakdancer
at a wedding reception with its scraggly lo-fi guitar, peppy synths,
and ebullient melodies. Reggie Youngblood's vocals put a lighthearted
spin on the ol' Robert Smith/Conor Oberst quaver, while keyboardists
Ali Youngblood and Dawn Watley cheer back Go! Team-style atop Kevin
Snow's emphatic drums. The reverb here can get a bit cavernous, tending
toward epic grandiosity over, say, the Boy Least Likely To's low-key
charm. But we're not suggesting Black Kids should start biting anybody's
moves. -Pitchfork

Across the Sea of Id: The Way to Eden
PS, US Quite possibly the final BSE release after an illustrious career
of nearly 25 years. It marks a return to the beloved semi-acoustic
style of their first few releases, and also - due to public demand!
- contains no vocals. It is a mixture of new readings of past tracks
& new compositions. The new material offers a singular, dreamy
vision of BSE's potentially final works. The two title tracks, Across
the Sea of Id and Eden Song, are reflective, yet hallucinatory explorations
into Jesus Acedo's unique compositional & melodic sensibility.
While Angel de la Guardia has a refined yet explosive rock swagger,
it is balanced by the meditation Perelandra & La Paz. The CD also
contains a video of the band performing the signature BSE piece "Dove
of the Desert"

Blurt
The Factory Recordings
PS, UK 12 tracks. LTM is pleased to present an archive CD of recordings
made in for the legendary Factory Records label by cult band Blurt,
the unclassifiable punk-jazz trio led by Ted Milton. Formed in Stroud
in 1979, Blurt consisted of Ted Milton (sax, vocals), brother Jake
Milton (drums) and guitarist Pete Creese. Ted had already attracted
the attention of Factory founder Tony Wilson as a puppeteer (!), and
were invited to join the label. Blurt performed at several Factory
showcase gigs in London between April and August 1980, and recorded
one side of the double compilation album A Factory Quartet (FACT 24).
Although their anarchic shows and music drew rave reviews, Blurt were
frustrated by delays in releasing their Factory recording, and the
last minute loss of a Factory tour of Europe in October. A live album,
Live In Berlin, was recorded in December 1980 and scheduled for release
as a 10" on Factory Benelux, but canceled after Blurt annoyed
Wilson by comparing the Factory label to lifestyle boutique Habitat.
The set was subsequently released as In Berlin on Armageddon, its
memorable cover featuring a photograph of a pile of pink rubbish sacks.
Digitally remastered, The Factory Recordings combines all tracks from
A Factory Quartet and In Berlin, including Blurt favorites My Mother
Was a Friend of an Enemy of the People, Ubu, Puppeteers of the World
Unite and Cherry Blossom Polish. The booklet features archive images
and detailed sleevenotes. Ted Milton and Blurt still perform regularly
in both Britain and Europe, and remain an undervalued national treasure.

Brazzaville
21st Century Girl (ON SALE)
PS, US DAVID ARTHUR BROWN was a runaway on the streets of Los Angeles
at the age of 15. It was during this period that he began keeping
a journal and writing poetry. At the age of 18 he wound up living
in San Francisco, washing dishes at a local punk rock/gay restaurant
to save up money to buy a saxophone. Through much effort and low budget
travel (India, South America, Europe and the Far East) he was able
to hone his skills to a level that landed him gigs with the likes
of Beck, Siouxie Sioux , Ben Lee and Jude. In 1997 while on tour with
Beck, David got the idea to form Brazzaville. He bought a little guitar
on a trip through Barcelona and in the wee hours of touring began
writing the songs that would become the first Brazzaville record.
In 2008, Brazzaville has tours planned in Europe, Russia, China, Turkey
and the USA to promote "21st Century Girl", their seventh
full length release, available this summer on The Bus Stop Label.
NEW
YORK TIMES: "Think of Brazzaville as vagabond pop for fans of
Morphine, Tom Waits, Spain, Leonard Cohen and Tindersticks."
THE
NEW YORKER: "Brazzaville crafts sophisticated pop where languid
bossa-nova-influenced rhythms and gritty lyrics conjure dark deeds
on steamy dead-end streets."

Byrds
Another Dimension (2X10")
PS, US Double 10" release of original Columbia recordings from
1966, including 12 unheard tracks: instrumental takes, alternate vocal
mixes and extended versions from the legendary Fifth Dimension sessions.
"1966: Now heavily influenced by the earth-shaking creations
of two master musicians -- John Coltrane and Ravi Shankar -- the Byrds
began recording their new single, 'Eight Miles High' and 'Why,' along
with tracks for their upcoming album Fifth Dimension at Columbia Studios
in Hollywood. Growing more confident by the day in their studio acumen
and songwriting skills, the Byrds logged long nights of hypnotic in-studio
jamming, then hammered the white-hot magma into songs that will live
forever. A creative zenith in the Byrds' career, these fascinating
sessions deserve closer scrutiny than they've previously been afforded.
Alternate instrumental takes and extended experimental workouts give
essential insight here into the songs' final versions. Also included
are early versions of songs before the addition of any studio 'sweetening'
-- strings, percussion or sound effects. To top things off, we've
included a small handful of unique finds that give a 'fly-on-the-wall'
glimpse into the creation of one of the most important records of
our time. Limited edition: deluxe gatefold double 10" vinyl release."

Live In Holland 1971
PS, US When The Byrds cut the two songs featured on Live In Holland
1971 they may have been nearing the end of the trail, but this totally
revamped Byrds lineup had plenty of firepower left in their mighty
arsenal. Byrds founding member/vocalist/12-string legend Roger McGuinn
-- along with guitar whiz Clarence White, bassist Skip Battin and
drummer Gene Parsons -- sound better than ever, sailing through muscular
renditions of new Byrds fave (and Dr. John tribute) 'Lover Of The
Bayou' and Dylan country-rock staple 'You Ain't Goin' Nowhere.' McGuinn
admits he kept the name of the legendary Los Angeles combo intact
for the sake of his old pal (and new fretboard foil). 'Clarence White

McGuinn.

Colours
Love Heals: The Complete Recordings
PS, UK Colours launched onto the scene in 1968 with a stunningly glorious
psychedelic masterpiece of L.A studio wizardry. A super group before
the name was coined, Colours was the brainchild of Gary Montgomery
& Jack Dalton, two hard-working, former Motown songwriters who
also penned songs for The Turtles, Nino & April and The Moon.
This magical mystery tour-de-force of psychedelic Beatlesque pop also
features the talents of Derek & The Dominos bassist Carl Radle.
This first-ever CD issue of their long-out-of-print albums (Colours
and Atmosphere) is supplemented by long-lost 67 Dalton & Montgomery
recordings cut just months before they formed Colours. 1969 s Atmosphere
features former Beach Boy David Marks around the same time he was
a member of The Moon another band with many connections to Colours.
The 16-page colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos
and comprehensive liner notes that feature the participation of original
band members. Now Sounds, the new imprint from Cherry Red, was established
by Steve Stanley, producer of over 50 Rev - Ola titles.

despite a complete inability to be pinned to any specific movement

Davis, Link
Gumbo Ya-Ya - The Best Of 1948-58
PS, US Link Davis was probably the foremost Cajun fiddler of his generation.
He not only excelled in the old timely tradition he was raised in,
but was a hit artist in the Jazz influenced western swing field. He
certainly prefigured what was to become Rockabilly, though his subjects
were perhaps too regional and ethnic for a mainstream breakthrough
into the nascent Rock and Roll... unperturbed, Link Davis turned out
some of the most rockin' sides in all country music! Hit after hit,
and lucrative featured session work, followed, right through until
his death. Here are no less then 30 of the craziest sides by this
classic artist, blending R&B, Country, and the eerie edge of his
own Cajun heritage into a unique and rockin' blend. Gumbo Ya Ya indeed!

Durutti Column, The
Treatise on the Steppenwolf
PS, UK LTM is proud to announce the release of the very first soundtrack
recording by The Durutti Column, the legendary Factory Records ensemble
formed and fronted by virtuoso guitarist/composer Vini Reilly. Treatise
on the Steppenwolf is the soundtrack to the performance piece of the
same name by experimental theatre group 12 Stars, written and directed
by Gerard McInulty, first staged in Glasgow in May 2003. Freely adapted
from the celebrated counter-culture novel by Hermann Hesse, the performance
is a portrait a divided character in a state of ongoing conflict.
Previously unreleased, the soundtrack CD combines the original studio
recordings of the 12 pieces performed by The Durutti Column during
the Glasgow run, as well as two bonus live tracks recorded at the
event, one featuring spoken-word narrative by cast member Carolyn
Allen. The attractive booklet for this 60 minute digital re-master
includes background notes, and images from the Glasgow performance
in May 2003. Artist biography: Manchester native Vini Reilly formed
The Durutti Column in 1978, recording his debut album The Return of
the Durutti Column the following year with producer Martin Hannett,
a set of delicate instrumental tracks housed in an abrasive sandpaper
sleeve. Subsequent landmark albums include LC (1981), Without Mercy
(1984), The Guitar & Other Machines (1987), Sex & Death (1993),
Fidelity (1996) and Someone Else's Party (2003). A prolific recording
artist in his own right (usually with drummer Bruce Mitchell), Reilly
has also guested on records by Morrissey, Olive and Holly Johnson.
For many years the group sawas managed by the late Anthony H. Wilson,
founder of Factory Records.

Dutchess and The Duke, The
She's The Dutchess, He's The Duke
PS, US Compared to "Between The Buttons"-era Stones, Dylan,
and Leonard Cohen, The Dutchess & The Duke's songs mark a turning
point for Kimberly Morrison and Jesse Lortz. Each song touts magnetic
guitar lines and vocals so straightforward that they belie all other
intricacies. DUSTED MAGAZINE: "What the Dutchess and the Duke
have done here is to make a whole album's worth of these songs, in
a style that ranges at the harder end from Let It Bleed-era countrified
Stones to campfire folk songs. If you are expecting garage rock, given
the band members' past work in bands like the Fall-Outs, the Intelligence
and Fee Fi Fo Fum, you will be surprised, but not, at least after
the initial shock, disappointed. There's a sloppy, unplanned charm
to these songs, with their close harmonies, shuffling rhythms and
hard acoustic guitar strumming. They sound like the kind of songs
that long-time friends might pound out on the porch in the afternoon,
beer cans everywhere, harmonies drifting in and out of true."
SEATTLE WEEKLY: "By taking tonal cues from darker, acid-tinged
'60s pop and sweetening it with just the right amount of meticulously
constructed harmonies, they are managing to pull off one of the trickier
combinations in songwriting - sounding timeless and utterly modern
at the same time."

Eleh
Homage to the Square Wave
PS, US Following three sold out releases on Important Records, Eleh
present their fourth vinyl-only full-length, Homage to the Square
Wave. Featuring two sidelong tracks each clocking-in at over 20 minutes,
Homage is dedicated to the highly influential artist Josef Albers.
Eleh return with their battery of vintage modular analog gear to produce
a recording of pure tone, pure sound, pure volume and pure analog.
Side A features "Black," a slowly enveloping mass of intensely
throbbing low end, activating the flight response. Time passes rapidly
in a hallucinatory forest filled with suffocating bulbs of bass. "Blue
& White" on the B-side provides the decompression of rocking
on a calm ocean. Soft peaks of warm tone rise and fall over the surface
of concentrated saline. Volume reveals detail. Homage was mastered
by James Plotkin, cut direct to metal and pressed on 200g virgin vinyl
in a hand numbered edition of 500. The LP comes housed in a custom
letter pressed jacket that was designed by John Brien of Important
Records and printed by Studio on Fire in Minneapolis. The jackets
were printed flat, die-cut, folded and glued resulting in a letterpressed
jacket with a printed spine. Eleh was formed to pay tribute to the
pioneers of audio minimalism such as La Monte Young, Terry Riley,
Eliane Radigue, Pauline Oliveros and Charlemagne Palestine. The tidal
rumblings of Eleh will appeal to fans of Sunn O))), Om, Oren Ambarchi,
etc. This is drone with density.

Etziony, Yair
Flawed
PS, JAPAN 'Flawed' is the fist solo album by Yair Etziony from Tel
Aviv, Israel also known as Faction on UK's Neo Oujia label. When I
started working on this project I wanted to create two separate albums,
one with smoked jazzy feeling with emphasis on beats and second one
with only textures, a piano and pads. At that time I was performing
a lot with this sort of music in galleries, art events and museums.
In my live show performance I used to combine elements from both albums,
I liked the way it sounded and slowly I got the notion that I can
fuse all the sounds and ideas into one album. I tried to use the same
working techniques for all the tracks in the album, most of them were
created on a computer, some beats and stabs that were created on an
old analog sampler. Most of the work effort was to edit the raw material
I had and than arrange in on my computer. All composition deal with
mistakes, non-perfect things and flaws. I think that sometimes when
dealt in the right way a mistake or a flaw can be a beautiful thing,
like a broken CRT monitor that still sends a signal. I got my inspiration
from day to day things like : walking at night, sounds of machines
working and office ambiance at night. During the process of making
the album I lost all my hard drive data and all the projects I already
created for the album were deleted. I never backup my work, my only
luck was to find a DVD with some of the projects thrown somewhere
around my studio (i burned one DVD to test the new burner).

Family Tree, The
Ms. Butters
PS, UK A classic of West Coast psychpop. and a much sought after gem....after
the breakup of San Francisco garage groups The Brogues ("Ain't
no miracle worker"), most members went on to Quicksilver Messenger
Service....Bassist Bill Whittington formed The Family Tree with Bob
Segarini of The Ratz and the enigmatic Lee Michaels....the latter
soon dropped out, and a couple of innovative singles for the mysterious
LA based Mira label brought them to the attention of not only RCA,
but Sunbury music's Dick Campbell and his friend and big hope, Harry
Nilsson....with input from Harry (at this time being hailed as a genius
by The Beatles and writing songs for everyone from The Monkees and
The Turtles on down) the band embarked on the semi conceptual album
"Miss Butters"....an amazing semi-lost gem of West Coast
psychpop genius on a par with Harry Nilsson's own records of the period....the
evidence? Draw the comparisons to Nilsson's "Aerial Ballet":
Miss Butters was recorded in Los Angeles in 1968, Same producer, Same
arranger, Same album cover painter, Same studio, Nilsson co-wrote
one of the tunes. Released the same week as "Aerial Ballet."
(The "Aerial Ballet" RCA selection number was 3956. "Miss
Butters" was 3955.) Gotta be good enough to whet the appetite
of anyone, eh?....But the thing is...it's even BETTER than that!....And
this deluxe first-time reissue also contains the great and amazingly
rare non-LP singles...what are you waiting for! First EVER time on
CD for this enigmatic and collectable group! Beautifully remastered
from the original MONO mastertapes (the stereo mix was done by an
assistant engineer alone and is a travesty according to the band members!)
Amazing packaging including previously unpublished photos and in-depth
liner notes with with the participation of the legendary Bob Segarini...
Bob Segarini's first album release. Predated Roxy, The Wackers, and
his solo power pop opus, "Gotta Have Pop." A must for all
fans of West Coast psychpop and garage, Harry Nilsson....let's face
it, if you were excited about The Merry Go Round...here's another

EP in 1999 on D.U.B., since when they have unleashed a fury of releases
on labels including Neo Ouija, n5MD, U-Cover, and Hymen, as well as
their prodigious work under other guises such as Cane and Quench,
and their collaborative hip hop project Shadow Huntaz. Their signature
bass-driven precision sound compositions, encompassing influences
from hip hop, jazz, reggae, dub, soul and all forms of electronic
music, are carefully crafted and constructed into tight rhythmic forces
with a keen ear for texture and structure. With the global dubstep
virus now infecting all forms of electronic music, it was a natural
evolution for the Funcken brothers to take strands of the meme and
splice it to the DNA of their own productions, creating a mutant hybrid
of lurching instrumental hip hop with floor shaking bass and super
punchy intricate razor sharp rhythms. The five-track 'Dubstoned EP
1' is the first in a series of releases they have planned in this
broad style, and will be promoted with two rare UK appearances, one
at Plastic People in London and another at Bristol's The Cube Cinema,
with support from Hyperdub's Ikonika and Highpoint Lowlife's Fisk
Industries.

Green, Kathe
Run' the Length Of Your Wildness
PS, UK Californian actress/model/singer Kathe Green cut this hugely
sought after, but rare-as-hell long player for Deram in 1969 after
having appeared in 'the Party with Peter Sellers. Finding herself
in London as guest and bosom buddy of Richard Harris, himself enjoying
a spin-off career as a hugely successful pop star at the time, Kathe
found herself singing Mark Lesters vocal parts on "Where Is Love?"
for the soon-to-be-massive Oliver soundtrack. She was snapped up by
Deram where she was teamed up with in-house whiz-kid producer Wayne
Bickerton, arranger supreme John Cameron, and the cream of London
session players. Kathe wrote 10 of the albums 13 tracks, which recall
all manner of contemporary female vocalists of the time, from Marianne
Faithfull to Sandie Shaw to Dana Gillespie (with whom Kathe shared
Bickertons production savvy, not to mention a couple of his tunes).
She also turns in a lump-to-the-throat reading of Cameron s perennial
If I Thought You d Ever Change Your Mind. Housed in a striking sleeve
which featured gushing notes by the likes of Peter Sellers, Rex Harrison
and Simon Dee and named after a line of poetry bestowed on her by
Richard Harris himself, Run the Length Of Your Wildness disappeared
as quickly as it had come, only being picked up on through internet
exposure over the last year or so. Produced in conjunction with Kathe
herself, Rev-Ola is proud, nay humbled, to present the first ever
reissue of this lost late 60s femme pop classic!

Grimm, Joe
Brain Cloud
PS, JAPAN
Joe Grimm (formerly known as The Wind-Up Bird) is a composer/ performer
based in Providence, RI known with remarkable releases on Music Fellowship
Label. The seed for this music was planted when I participated in
one of Glenn Branca's 100-guitar symphonies. The sound was incredible:
a deafening, electric choir incorporating so many voices that the
each element was subsumed within the group sound. But I was struck
even more by the unrealized potential in Branca's approach; the sound
was separated into several identifiable voices, so that the impression
given was of a conventional counterpoint-driven music. I wanted to
make a particulate music that presented itself as a single mass of
varying density, comprised of tens of thousands of individual events.
Soon afterward, I began to immerse myself in the piano music of Charlemagne
Palestine. I learned from him that when two notes share a particular
frequency in their overtone series, that frequency can be made to
sing out clearly -- a ghost tone, not played directly, but arising
from the interactions among the directly played notes. I began to
compose and improvise with this in mind -- I could sketch out desired
pitches, and then arrange webs of lower pitches that coincided to
produce those target pitches within their harmonic series. This music
deals with overtones. I listen not so much to the direct-played notes;
instead, I let my mind wander through the web of throbbing harmonics
that arise as a result of their interaction. There are obvious sounds
on the surface of the music, but eventually my ears penetrate beneath
the surface to where harmonics overlap in countless reinforcements
and cancellations. I love the glowing acoustic haze that seems to
hover above the obvious notes, and the sustained ghost tones that
emerge and recede within that cloudy texture. The Brain Cloud pieces
are through composed according to the principles of overtone confluence
and particle density. There are no special electronics on these recordings
-- the humming sounds are the result of the acoustical interaction
of voices, violins, horns, and above all, piano (Brain Cloud III was
recorded live with three pianos, each played by three people; 18-handed
piano). The harpsichord interludes are solo improvisations for harpsichord,
equalizer, and slight delay.

with furious heavy lead guitar assaults and jams, powerful screaming

in the San Francisco music scene developing their sound. During this
period, Groundshaker played gigs at the Fillmore and every other venue
available in the Bay area. They decided to hock their amps and headed
to Los Angeles and quickly landed several gigs on the L.A. club circuit.
At the Whisky A Go-Go they were told they were too loud... imagine

Honeybus
Story
PS, UK In recent years Honeybus have outgrown the one hit wonder tag
that plagued them for years and become one of the most treasured British
bands of the late 60s. Sure, I Can t Let Maggie Go represents a high
watermark of intelligent pop records reaching the top ten but there's
so much else besides. The band cut three singles in 1967 and 68, written
and fronted by Pete Dello who promptly quit after Maggie hit and embarked
on a fascinating and complex solo career. Not to be outdone, the band
re-grouped and cut three further singles and an album that almost
never got released. The story goes that upon their split in early
1970, somebody at their label, Deram Records, heard the recordings
and demanded that it be released. And hence it was, posthumously and
to little fanfare in 1970. Blending the kind of pure, crystalline
folk-tinged baroque pop that had characterized most of their singles
with flashes of psychedelia, country and bubblegum, the twelve songs
that make up Story are uniformly stunning creations, played with skill
and confidence, arranged for strings and woodwind and blessed with
a sympathetic, understated production. We've added all eleven non-album
Deram single sides, restored the original album artwork and told the
Honeybus story with input from the band themselves.

Ikeda, Ken
Mist on the Window
PS, JAPAN Ken Ikeda is a video artist and composer born in Tokyo (1964)
but currently resident in New York. He has exhibited sound art and
visual installations around the world and has collaborated with painter
Tadanoori Yokoo and artist Mariko Mori. Mist On The Window is his
third album, following Tzuki (2000) and Merge (2003) both on the Touch
label. There are moments in your life when something changes as you
hear and become aware of the sounds around you. Why do the sounds
that cups and chairs make feel so distant? It seems that 'I' as an
existence won't be forgiven for being my ordinary self. The meaningless
noise that reverberates in the living room opens up the possibility
of connecting beyond the horizon... Then, I become alone and say goodbye
to the 'Me that was pretending to be like me'. By assimilating these
everyday sounds I get away from the everyday me and get closer, little
by little, to the universe of 'eternity and nothingness'. At this
point - meaning the moment I change - I enter a personal time and
space which could never be shared with others. During the 2 years
spent on this project I used an instrument made with rubber bands
and nails to document my daily involvement with sounds. There exist
various faces of 'me' and through the process of recording I became
aware of the concept of 'beyond the window' and got lost in this vague
daily space. What could you see beyond the window? The whole universe
and at the same time the usual me living my daily, ordinary life.

Martha And The Muffins
Danseparc
PS, UK Martha & The Muffins are one of Canada's most acclaimed
and cherished pop/rock bands, famed for their universal hit Echo Beach
(the ode to office escapism recently used as the title and theme song
of the acclaimed 12-part ITV serial). Danseparc is among their finest
achievements, an album which, on release in 1983, received substantial
critical acclaim. See the contemporaneous rave press notices below.
It was the second of three albums coproduced with the band by fellow
Canadian Daniel Lanois, famous for his work with U2, Bob Dylan, Brian
Eno and many others. This is still Martha Johnson s show, even when
the songs are not, and it's her personality reflected off the others
that gives Danseparc the sort of sexual spark the Au Pairs could only
theorize. (JD Considine, MUSICIAN). Danseparc manages to handily balance
a playful sense of adventure with unforced pop naiveté and
retain the band s unique vitality like XTC, these nimble Canadians
demonstrate that an irreverent intelligence needn't disqualify one
from playing in the major leagues. (MUSIC AND SOUND OUTPUT). Plenty
of great noise abounding here, especially on the aptly titled Obedience
and the bongo-driven Boys In The Bushes I am using you, am I amusing
you? coos the cucumberly Ms. Martha while keyboards swirl, guitars
scratch and guest saxophones wail all around. (CREEM) This deluxe
reissue has been re-mastered under the band's direct supervision.
Mark Gane and Martha Johnson have also overseen the artwork, which
features lyrics to all the songs plus a number of unpublished photos
and video stills. There are also three bonus tracks. The band will
release a new album and tour later this year, and will be available

Mason, Dave
Alone Together
PS, UK A one time Kim Fowley protégé, and one time Spencer
Davis guitar tech, Dave Mason was a key and founder member of psych/pop/funk/soul/fusion
legends Traffic. The writer of many of the band's early classics including
the timeless and much-covered "Feelin Alright?" Mason was
the first to leave due to the classic 'musical differences. Moving
to the US, his first solo album was one of the many recordings to
come out of the Leon Russell/Delaney & Bonnie axis in1969/1970.
Alone Together contains excellent, tightly constructed pop songs,
redolent of his singles for Traffic, albeit extended in the then new
style, built on a fat bed of acoustic guitars with tasteful electric
guitar accents. Mason's vocals are embellished with harmonies from
Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear and Delaney & Bonnie. Besides the
hit Only You Know and I Know, (also a hit for Delaney & Bonnie)
highlights include the bouncy gospel-inflected Waitin' On You and
the banjo-bejeweled Just a Song. Look at You Look at Me and the wonderfully
wah-wahed Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave are reminiscent of
Traffic, whose drummer, Jim Capaldi is among the all-star cast assembled
here.

Mason, Dave & Cass Elliot
Self-Titled
PS, UK A deceptive one this! Originally planned as a Dave Mason solo
album, it is certainly one of his finest and coupling him with Cass
Elliot was an utter stroke of genius, as she goes from being "just"
producer and backing vocalist to being the shining guest star of the
album. Cass provides excellent background vocals on her non-lead songs
alongside sister Leah Kunkel making up an impressive harmony stack.
The album is propelled by Mason's superb songwriting talents and tracks
such as On and On, Walk to the Point, and several others bear this
out. His guitar playing is some of his finest recorded work, especially
the epic Glittering Façade, where he layers acoustic and electric
guitars to a scintillating effect. Elliot's Here We Go Again showcases
her ability as an outstanding lead vocalist, showing just what a star
we lost. Paul Harris provides some excellent keyboard and string arrangements
providing a glimpse of fine work that was to follow in Stephen Stills'
Manassas. The rest of the stellar backing crew outdo themselves. This
is a highly underrated album, but in the end, one of the finest of
the 1970s and one with shockingly modern soundscapes.

Melvins
Nude With Boots (ON SALE)
PS, US It's 2008 and The Melvins are still called "family entertainment
on another level." Almost 25 years, over 25 albums and still
counting. The band still includes founding member King Buzzo and almost
founding member Dale Crover, and they STILL have the Big Business
guys Jared Warren and Coady Willis playing with them. This is extraordinary
considering how hard it is for bass players and others to stick around
the Melvins camp for more than two minutes. Everyone always loses
their minds with or without drugs, but mostly with. They can't explain
why, but the list of former members is about 40 and counting. Well,
40 might be a bit of an exaggeration but not by much. The Melvins
have been a band for a long, long, long, long time... A long, long,
long time. They're somewhere in between a novelty act and yesterdays
news. It's a strange place for a band with a Peter Pan complex to
be in but there it is! What the hell right? We ALL want to just get
on a space ship and watch the earth explode, don't we? As hard as
it might be to believe, The Melvins have a NEW album in the can! It's
called Nude With Boots and is scheduled for a July 8 release. It's
good... Groovy good! They played it for their wives and girlfriends
and they seemed to like it so HERE WE GO! The Melvins' influence is
vast and incomparable. It's global baby, and AND King Buzzo has even
been accused of attempted murder! You know it HAS to be BS because
when the King starts something, he finishes it. He's never ATTEMPTED
anything in his life. He gets the job done, and so do the Melvins.

Double Sight
PS, UK Featuring the precocious talents of 14-year-old guitarist Jimmy
McCulloch, Scottish band One In A Million's genre-defining December
1967 single 'Fredereek Hernando'/'Double Sight' is widely acknowledged
as one of the rarest and best British psychedelic singles of the era.
Naturally enough, that double-sided classic is included on this complete

of their highly-regarded mod-pop debut single from January 1967 as
well as no less than seven previously unreleased, unknown-to-exist,

Opitope
Hau
PS, JAPAN Optiope is a duo formed by Date Tomoyoshi and Chihei Hatakeyama
(also known for his works on Kranky) in autumn 2002. 'Hau' is an imaginary
album traveling from the north to south, overlapping the images of
transition of the four seasons. In reality, indeed one thing always
leads to an end and I feel sad every time I think about that. In this
album, we tried to express this sorrow feeling changing gradually
into hope as we travel south. Seasons have no end. It always moves
from spring, summer, autumn, winter back to spring.. And just like
the changing seasons, the tracks in this album constantly shifts another
and the last piece connects to the very beginning which forms the
never ending circle. We have expressed the images of these "endings"
with "never endings" by music. These thoughts were brought
up naturally during the making of this album and it's not that we
had this idea from the start. Another concept of this album is "symmetry".
There are 9 pieces in this album and is constructed by track 5 being
the axis of the symmetry - like in terms os composition, 1st track
is a piano piece and also the 9th track. The same thing goes to the
arrangements like you will notice sounds that forms contrasts between
the left & right speaker.

Peanut Butter Conspiracy
For Children Of All Ages
PS, UK Perhaps it was just their name, but the Peanut Butter Conspiracy
somehow failed to reap due plaudits during their existence. From an
early incarnation as the Ashes onwards, their story intertwines with
those of several Californian contemporaries while, at its best, the
band's music fused Bay Area-styled invention with 60s LA sunshine
harmonies. They scored early on with the deathless Turn On A Friend
(To The Good Life) This, their final album, may not scale such heights,
but it nonetheless provides a fascinating coda to the group's complex
history. Moving into rock and R&B areas at times, we still have
the soulful vocals of Alan Brackett mixed with the ethereal tones
of Sandy Robison for that unique and loveable PBC sound.

Ruhlmann, Mathieu & Celer
Mesoscaphe
PS, JAPAN A beautiful collaboration album by sound artists Mathieu
Ruhlamm (CAN) and Celer (US). 'Mesoscaphe' is a sound work dedicated
to The 1969 voyage of the Ben Franklin, the naturally-propelled submarine
created to explore the currents of the Gulf Stream, and the nature
of the sea. Half of the sound is composed of original pieces of music,
meant to symbolize a deepening human element culled from memory, from
strings, pianos, and electronics. The other half of the sound is composed
of natural field recordings, of the Ben Franklin itself, as well as
the surrounding oceans and habitats, with the intention of providing
realism through sound, just as if it were an actual document from
the voyage, of the surrounding ocean. The artists exchanged their
own original sounds with each other, allowing each artist to experiment
and remix outside of their own sound sources, with the potential to
apply our own sound methods to each others' sound sources, and develop
the concept even further. Titles were made to coordinate with the
movement of the voyage, creating their own story, in relation to the
progressing sounds. The final result is a documented literary and
audio interpretation of the voyage, from the perspective of 3 sound
and visual artists, of the experiences and surroundings of the crew
of the Ben Franklin, traveling for 30 days by the gentle glide of
the Gulf Stream. We hope to bring attention to an important event
in history, overshadowed by the moon landings, and for people to know
the story of the revolutionary submarine that explored the nature
of the ocean, challenged scientific development, and ended up in a
salvage yard.

Smith, Patti & Kevin Shields
The Coral Sea
PS, US Unique collaboration two rock legends from odd ends of the
rock legend spectrum... Double-disc set of the live performance of
"The Coral Sea" - Patti Smith's posthumous homage to her
friend & photographer Robert Mapplethorpe & the title to her
1997 book. Shields (MY BLOODY VALENTINE) accompanies her on guitars
& effects & creates a haunting backdrop to the spoken prose.
A kind of screaming requiem, "The Coral Sea" describes Mapplethorpe's
terminal illness. Intense, layered electronics surged to a discordant
climax as Patti Smith read her poem, the words sailing over the noise
like an ocean liner.

The Coolest Thing About Love
PS, US Delicate and Twee! Summer fun with a sparkly heart! Sincere
honest pop music with a gentle soul and good intentions! Herein lie
some of the Smittens sweetest songs yet. Expanding their sonic palate
a bit on their third full-length album, the Smittens' take on hot

interstate, in a dandelion field, in the library- to name just a few!)
and dishing out the love in all directions! The Smittens sing their
songs directly into your heart and leave lasting deep warmth there,
even as their catchy tunes continue to spin round and round your head!
Lovingly recorded by the Smittens themselves with new sounds and friends

Sunforest
The Sound of Sunforest [re-issue]
PS, UK Steeped in medieval and Renaissance sounds as well as pop,
this U.S. female trio epitomized their generation's gleeful experimentalism.
Recorded in London's Olympic studios in two weeks in the autumn of
1969, their wonderful album encompasses acid-tinged folk, riotous
country, faux 1930s balladry and psychedelic pop with strong melodies,
striking vocal harmonies, and immaculate arrangements. One fan was
film director Stanley Kubrick -- he included "I Want To Marry
A Lighthouse Keeper" and "Overture To The Sun" on his
famous Clockwork Orange soundtrack. The album has gone on to become
one of the most sought-after releases of its time, and is presented
here in a numbered, strictly-limited card-wallet format.

rather as psych-pop. Summer Palace is their debut full length. ALL
MUSIC GUIDE: "London-based internationalists Sunny Day Sets Fire
are actually an immediately likeable indie pop band with subtle psychedelic
influences... A consistently solid record filled with perky vocal
hooks, luxurious male/female harmonies, and inventive, tuneful arrangements.
Utterly charming without being precious and cutesy, Summer Palace
is an unexpected gem recommended to fans of the Apples In Stereo,

July 15, 1972
PS, US Official CD reissue of the first Taj Mahal Travellers album,
licensed from Sony Japan. Originally issued by CBS in Japan in 1972,
this has been incredibly in-demand for quite some time (this Showboat
edition was first issued in 2001 or thereabouts and is now more widely
available again). The precursor to the 2nd and final Taj-Mahal Travellers
album, August 1974 (reissued on P-vine in the late '90s and still
available), this represents Fluxus-inspired drone and improvisation
at its peak. The line up for this album is: Takehisa Kosugi (electronic
violin, radio oscillators & voice), Ryo Loike (electronic contrabass,
suntool, harmonia & sheet iron), Yukio Tsuchiya (vibraphon, suntool),
Michihiro Kimura (electronic guitar & percussion), Seiji Nagai

Them
S-T
PS, UK The complicated life of this legendary UK R&B outfit was
almost over when this, their penultimate album, appeared in 1970.
Astonishingly, by then they were reduced to a duo consisting of original
bassist Alan Henderson and U.S. vocalist/percussionist Jerry Cole.
It ranges from pounding psychedelia ("I Keep Singing") and
snotty garage punk ("Lonely Weekends," a shameless rewrite
of "Gloria") to furious rock and roll ("Jo Ann")
and even a country ballad ("Take A Little Time"). As the
original sleevenotes declared: "The Them sound combines the typical
British style with an air of mystery and an atmosphere of excitement...
mythical, mystical, Oriental, African, electronic and computer rhythms
included."

Them
Them In Reality
PS, UK In 1971, following the departure of his bandmate Jerry Cole,
bassist Alan Henderson joined forces with U.S. guitarist Jim Parker
and drummer John Stark to make this lost power trio classic -- the
last to be issued under the legendary Them moniker. It opens with
a searing medley of the Them classics "Gloria" and "Baby
Please Don't Go," boasting superb interplay and savage psychedelic
guitar throughout. Elsewhere, Stark and Parker flex their songwriting
muscles on a series of powerful compositions, and even an acid folk
number. Like its equally overlooked predecessor, this lost classic
is guaranteed to find favor with fans of top-end garage rock.

Tu Fawning
Secession EP
PS, US Tu Fawning is the new project of Joe Haege and Corrina Repp.
The collaboration stemmed from a mutual desire to achieve something
outside the bounds of their other projects, 31Knots (Haege) and Corrina
Repp. One look at the liner notes finds Haege all over Corrina Repp's
The Absent and The Distant, which was released on Mark Kozelek's (Red
House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) label Caldo Verde. Then the roles were
reversed as Repp appeared on 31Knots' EP:Polemics and The Days and
Nights Of Everything Anywhere, both released on Polyvinyl. Haege has
also served as Repp's backing "band" for tours they have
done with Mark Kozelek and Norfolk and Western, playing drums, piano,
samples and singing. This is truly when the ideas for what would become
Tu Fawning began to take shape. Both Haege and Repp have been touring
internationally for many years now. They have individually shared
the stage with the likes of Cat Power, The Decemberists, Modest Mouse
and Menomena to name a few. Together under the Tu Fawning moniker
they already have a European tour under their belt as well as quickly
becoming one of the most recognizable bands in the local music scene
in Portland.

Psychedelic Schlemiels 2: More Lost Sounds From The Britpsych Scene
1967-1969

from the soft white underbelly of the late '60s British psychedelic

groups. With vital contributions from such obscure local heroes as
Cellophane Cloud, Sweet Marriage, Varsity Rag and Forever Changes,
and featuring previously-unreleased demos by major label acts The

Youngbloods, The
Beautiful! Live in San Francisco, 1971
PS, US By the time the Youngbloods, always crowd faves at the west
coast ballrooms, performed live for San Francisco's free-form radio
pioneer KSAN in 1971, they'd honed their set to a fine gloss. Featuring
the smooth as apple-butter voice of Jesse Colin Young and the guitar/keyboard
wizardry of Banana, backed by the rock-solid bass-and-drum tandem
of Michael Kane and Joe Bauer, the Youngbloods positively sparkle
here. We're elated to present a lengthy, previously unissued 13-song
set that's equal parts rocking R&B, dreamy jazzers and honky tonk
flag-wavers, with just a little bit of psychedelic weirdness -- topped
off, of course, by a knockout version of their generational anthem,
'Get Together.' The Youngbloods: at the top of their game, making

Action Biker
Hesperian Puisto (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE AUGUST 12TH)
PS, SWEDEN It really is time for Action Biker's first solo album!
It has now been six years since she emerged as an artist doing fun
and popular live shows and releasing CD-R's in the indie pop scene
of Gothenburg, Sweden, which included people like Jens Lekman and
The Honeydrips. Since then, Sarah Nyberg Pergament has been involved
in other projects, such as Flow Flux Clan, Kissing Mirrors and The
Dreamers, whose record "Day For Night" has received great
acclaim from different places around the world. Over the years, Sarah
has also performed lots of Action Biker shows (some, as an opening
act for Le Tigre and The Embassy), contributed to recordings with
Lars Blek (The Field), Differnet and The Honeydrips, and all this
time, new recordings with Action Biker have popped up on compilations
and singles. In brief, when "Hesperian Puisto" finally is
released, it means the début of someone with a lot of experienceŠ
The record is named after the Hesperian park in Helsinki, Finland,
where Sarah lived for a while. She describes her music as baroque
on synthesizers. It is pop music built on complex naivety - altogether
very accessible music with distinct vocals and a crispy, sweet, analogue
sound. Two great-looking videos are also included on the CD. References

A Final Kiss on Poisoned Cheeks (PRE-ORDER: SALEABLE JULY 22ND)
PS, US There is a vivid breadth to the guitar deconstructions of Australian
OREN AMBARCHI. Sometimes his work takes a delicate lilt; it can also
dive into dark and deep pools of sound when he joins cowl-core ensembles
Sunn O))) (with Stephen O'Malley) and Burial Chamber Trio (with Greg
Anderson). Whether with those bands, solo, or in collaboration with
luminaries ranging from Mike Patton and John Zorn to Christian Fennesz,
he consistently reroutes his instrument into zones of arch, alien
abstraction. "A Final Kiss on Poisoned Cheeks" offers a
dizzying gaze straight into a chasm of extreme frequencies - paint-peelingly
high and bowel-churningly low - all set atop a sub-strata of menace,
angst, and contemplative beauty.
