13th Floor Elevators
Going Up: The Very Best Of The 13th Floor Elevators
PS, UK 2004 release, single CD best-of collection. "The 20 greatest
mind-blowing highlights recorded for the International Artists label
between 1966 and 1969 by the pioneering psychedelic rock group. Featuring
the groundbreaking single, 'You're Gonna Miss Me,' other classics
such as 'Fire Engine,' 'Slip Inside This House' and 'May The Circle
Remain Unbroken,' plus the recently discovered nugget 'I Don't Ever
Want To Come Down' and a manic version of Van Morrison's garage classic,
'Gloria.' Fronted by the truly eccentric and iconic Roky Erickson,
The 13th Floor Elevators produced some of the most inventive and memorable
music of the era. Their often-menacing drug-fuelled songs with a potent
combination of R&B, folk-rock and Kinks/Stones punk and stoned
lyrics based on a nihilistic hippy philosophy have brought them cult
status ever since."

Action Biker
Hesperian Puisto
PS, SWEDEN It really is time for Action Biker's first solo album!
It has now been six years since she emerged as an artist doing fun
and popular live shows and releasing CD-R's in the indie pop scene
of Gothenburg, Sweden, which included people like Jens Lekman and
The Honeydrips. Since then, Sarah Nyberg Pergament has been involved
in other projects, such as Flow Flux Clan, Kissing Mirrors and The
Dreamers, whose record "Day For Night" has received great
acclaim from different places around the world. Over the years, Sarah
has also performed lots of Action Biker shows (some, as an opening
act for Le Tigre and The Embassy), contributed to recordings with
Lars Blek (The Field), Differnet and The Honeydrips, and all this
time, new recordings with Action Biker have popped up on compilations
and singles. In brief, when "Hesperian Puisto" finally is
released, it means the début of someone with a lot of experienceŠ
The record is named after the Hesperian park in Helsinki, Finland,
where Sarah lived for a while. She describes her music as baroque
on synthesizers. It is pop music built on complex naivety - altogether
very accessible music with distinct vocals and a crispy, sweet, analogue
sound. Two great-looking videos are also included on the CD. References
and Influences: Young Marble Giants, Broadcast, Dislocation Dance,
Moondog, Virna Lindt, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Antena, Francoise

S-T
PS, US This mellow collection of communal U.S. hippie folk was recorded
in 1968 and went undiscovered for decades. Featuring male and female
vocals, strummed 6 and 12-string acoustic guitars, congas, flute and
tambourine, it's a lost gem that's bound to appeal to fans of stoned
rural psychedelia. The songs range from touching ballads to whimsical
ditties and a highly unusual medley in tribute to folk giant Fred
Neil. It makes its CD debut here, and comes complete with all four
sides of their equally-rare and obscure 45s.

As vocal melodies chime, discreet electronic effects swirl around

The group has forged a distinctive sound encompassing some of their

Motown flourishes, Brazilian Tropicalia, cosmic jazz & symphonic
60's pop of Brian Wilson & Phil Spector- all while paying homage
to their Mexican musical heritage.

Ambarchi, Oren
A Final Kiss on Poisoned Cheeks
PS, US There is a vivid breadth to the guitar deconstructions of Australian
OREN AMBARCHI. Sometimes his work takes a delicate lilt; it can also
dive into dark and deep pools of sound when he joins cowl-core ensembles
Sunn O))) (with Stephen O'Malley) and Burial Chamber Trio (with Greg
Anderson). Whether with those bands, solo, or in collaboration with
luminaries ranging from Mike Patton and John Zorn to Christian Fennesz,
he consistently reroutes his instrument into zones of arch, alien
abstraction. "A Final Kiss on Poisoned Cheeks" offers a
dizzying gaze straight into a chasm of extreme frequencies - paint-peelingly
high and bowel-churningly low - all set atop a sub-strata of menace,
angst, and contemplative beauty.

MADE IN MEXICO contribute the debut recordings of "Infrared Eye,"
"Wounded Knees" & "International Zombie."
Athletic Automaton features STEPHEN MATTOS (ex-ARAB ON RADAR) and
provide two tracks of droning, distortion-sopped lapsteel guitar set
to a repetitive battery of seasick lurching rhythms. Made in Mexico
features JEFF SCHNEIDER (ex-Arab On Radar). Made in Mexico provides
the listener with scratchy riffs accompanied by REBECCA MITCHELL's
dispatch-from-the-edge shrieks. Meanwhile the percussion and bass
remain loose and limber enough to tackle the arrangements dynamics
with no wave jazz-like focus.

Green & Cold
PS, US Green & Cold is the strength of strings proved by AIDAN
BAKER (NADJA). Yes, when gazed upon, these patent leather shoes really
do reflect up. However, G&C accomplishes much more than throwing
loveless lights back up to heaven. Baker's six strings ring out like
Echoes in a Shallow Bay in the year 4 A.D., but vox and drone are
couched in subtly weird production. Baker's voice is calmly pleasing,
and like Vini Reilly or Henry Frayne (Lanterna), his vocals often
seem more like another frequency/rhythm than specific words. Edition

Bellafea
Cavalcade
PS, US BELLAFEA call Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The rich, independent
music history and their subsequent Southern upbringing play obvious
roles in structuring their individuality. Bellafea teems with the
punk spirit of local townies Superchunk, while the trialing dissonance
of Polvo shine through in their string parts. There is an earnest
aggression in their music, perhaps channeled from their struggles
with the vastly conservative Southeastern United States-the patriarchal,
Bible-belt countryside where they grew up. There is resistance, and
there is also a secular nod to their heritage and its inevitable and
inspiring impact on their songwriting.

Belong
Same Places (Slow Version)
PS, US With "Same Places (Slow Version)," BELONG evinces
a slow-motion transformation - plate tectonics, wired for sound. Aural
mountains melt into seas; yet icy barrens yield to breathing jungles
of detail. The single, sprawling track may evoke decay, dissolution
and destruction, but underfoot are tendrils of inexplicable joy. Belong
sings a lullaby of obliteration, and the paradox it embodies would
make both Kevin Shields and Tony Conrad proud: crushing melancholia
and shuddering euphoria, inexorably intertwined.

Bitcrush
Shimmer and Fade
PS, US Originally released in 2005, 'Shimmer and Fade' was a limited
time download EP from n5MD's sub-label En:peg Digital. Within its
forty-eight minutes, bass and guitar arose from the background to
a place of prominence and carried the EP's melodic content. This change
in form represented an important period in the natural evolution of
the Bitcrush sound, a time that found Mike Cadoo transitioning from
his post-industrial and IDM beginnings found on Enarc to the more
ambient/post-shoegaze direction of 'In Distance.' After years of requests
to bring Shimmer and Fade back, n5MD has chosen to re-release it as
a re-mastered CD which contains four extra tracks not found on the
original EP. Limited to 1000, this release will serve as a time capsule

Bruni, Carla
Comme Si de Rien N'Etait
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The title of Carla Bruni's 2008 album,
Comme Si de Rien N'Etait (As If Nothing Had Happened), is a good joke.
After all, since her last album Bruni fell into a whirlwind romance
with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and ended up marrying him and
becoming the "First Lady" of France. That's a pretty big
"something," and indeed it isn't often that the romance
of a singer and a president is chronicled on record as it is here
-- though you need to be fluent in French to catch the details, since
only her cover of '50s pop classic "You Belong to Me" (which
is a witty nod to a semi-scandalous trip the couple took to Egypt
and other exotic locales before they were wed) is in English. You
don't need to know exactly what's going on lyrically, because the
intimate-sounding arrangements on the ballads and the light and breezy
sound of the more uptempo tunes clue you in that there is romance
in the air. Along with the nice arrangements, the best thing about
the album is Bruni's intimate and sultry singing. She can purr like
a Gainsbourg girl, strut sassily, or croon quite tenderly -- sometimes
all within the same song. Most of the time she sounds like you always
hoped a '60s French bombshell would sound but never quite did (think
Bardot or Birkin). Not surprisingly, Bruni appears totally in control
throughout the album, which could be down to her having written almost
all of the songs herself, or could be down to her new position in
the world. Whatever the reason, it makes for quite an improvement
over her previous album, No Promises, and fulfills the promise of
her charming debut, Quelqu'un M'a Dit. It is probably the best album
released by a "First Lady," but beyond that, it's a pleasant,
sometimes compelling album by a singer/songwriter with some stories
to tell and a lovely way of telling them."

Byrds
The Notorious Byrd Brothers
PS, US Re-issue with 6 bonus tracks. ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "The recording
sessions for the Byrds' fifth album, The Notorious Byrd Brothers,
were conducted in the midst of internal turmoil that found them reduced
to a duo by the time the record was completed. That wasn't evident
from listening to the results, which showed the group continuing to
expand the parameters of their eclecticism while retaining their hallmark
guitar jangle and harmonies. With assistance from producer Gary Usher,
they took more chances in the studio, enhancing the spacy quality
of tracks like "Natural Harmony" and Goffin & King's
"Wasn't Born to Follow" with electronic phasing. Washes
of Moog synthesizer formed the eerie backdrop for "Space Odyssey,"
and the songs were craftily and unobtrusively linked with segues and
fades. But the Byrds did not bury the essential strengths of their
tunes in effects: "Goin' Back" (also written by Goffin &
King) was a magnificent and melodic cover with the expected tasteful
12-string guitar runs that should have been a big hit. "Tribal
Gathering" has some of the band's most effervescent harmonies;
"Draft Morning" is a subtle and effective reflection of
the horrors of the Vietnam War; and "Old John Robertson"
looks forward to the country-rock that would soon dominate their repertoire.
[The CD reissue adds six bonus tracks, including different versions
of "Goin' Back" and "Draft Morning," a few instrumentals,
and David Crosby's controversial "Triad"; unlisted on the
sleeve is a rehearsal outtake which captures comically vitriolic arguments
among the band.]" (Richie Unterberger)

PS, US JIMMY, ANTHONY, GREG DARDEN, and BOBBY DONNE (LABRADFORD, AIX
EM KLEMM) play out infrequently , are unprolific in their release
schedule and spend their time refining and recording their abstract
electronic music. Their seclusion and deliberation produce remarkable
results. Re-Ups is their second full length release. CRISTAL use computers
to mutate and stretch sound spectra into long forms balanced against
tenuous, implied melodies. The barely perceptible abuts the overwhelming.
Placid soundfields are lacerated with incisions of digital fragments
and static on the opening track. Sonic reductions boil and release
evaporated melodies on the track "Xicifu," and then are
decimated by the scouring noise of "Left of Swept." All
across Re-Ups, disorienting and comforting elements sit side by side.
When so many noise and experimental artists seem to be hemorrhaging
releases, Cristal's compositional rigor is refreshing. One time pressing

KEN STRINGFELLOW. The Disciplines--a razor sharp, fuel efficient jet
machine blending a full-on, rock blast worthy of AC/DC with anthemic

humility and charm meets a stadium-sized musical reach. Formed by
American indie icon Ken Stringfellow (the Posies, R.E.M., Big Star,

chart successes Briskeby, the Disciplines have just released their
first album, SMOKiNG KiLLS (Voices Music & Ent., Norway/Denmark).
The album has already drawn rave reviews in the Norwegian national
media; the singles "Best Mistake" and "Oslo" are
bona fide chart hits; the band has been the subject of its own TV
special and is on most of the major festivals in Norway this summer.
The band was asked by Snow Patrol to support their London show last
year; R.E.M. included the track "Yours for the Taking" on
their Q magazine mix CD and has tagged the band to support their Scandinavian
stadium shows in September. Coming up: a feature on Ken in Elle Scandinavia;
festival and club dates in Netherlands, Spain and France; and a partnership

Faint, The
Fasciinatiion
PS, US Their 1st album in 4 years through their own, newly-formed
label. In certain ways, the album is the most mechanical & precise
of the band's work: the vocals sound less human than ever before;
the bass lines are more mangled, keyboards spiral & squeal out
of control; electronic pings & stabs invade the melodies; the
lyrical anxiety & disdain of previous albums pervades almost every
song.

Final Solution
Brotherman OST
PS, US He was a pusher that became a preacher. A gangster pimp serving
soup from the trunk of his Coup Deville. A mutant cross between Robin
Hood and Friar Tuck. Everyman, our man on the street, Brotherman.
Continuing a tradition that began with Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss
Song, and culminated with Shaft and Superfly, Brotherman was a blaxploitation
film set to hit screens in 1975. Prior to the script being finished,
the producers commissioned an original soundtrack to be performed
by THE FINAL SOLUTION, a fledgling vocal group from Chicago's west
side. The ten-song album draws deeply from Curtis Mayfield's well,
certainly, but the proof in the pudding is CARL WOLFOLK's unique guitar
style-a combination of flamenco and funk-that stabs around the four
part harmonies. In classic Numero fashion, before even one foot of
film was shot, the plug was pulled and the movie was canceled. Dragged
around for 30 years by songwriter and arranger Wolfolk, the tapes
of his life's work have finally been mixed, and the soundtrack album
has been augmented to include two orchestrated instrumentals intended
for the film. Having no stills from the film to work with, the Numero
Group tasked Minneapolis' Burlesque of North America to paint a cover
that could withstand the scrutiny of any blaxploitation poster geek.
The deluxe single disc set is housed in our standard slipcase, with
a plush booklet detailing the known history of the film and the group
that created the music.

Return of the Bastard
PS, US A brand new album from professional skater, artist, musician,
producer and businessman TOMMY GUERRERO (JET BLACK CRAYON). Tommy's
music, like his graphic design, is beguilingly simple. He sounds like
a guy fucking around on his front stoop-and maybe that's exactly accurate-but
the results touch you down to your toes. His melodies dance lightly
around your head while the rhythms build under your feet. His is soul
music, made by a street kid raised on Santana and Bill Withers, with
more than a little nod to The Clash and Public Enemy in there, too.
Features guest appearances from CURUMIN (Quannum Records), FREDO ORTIZ
(percussionist for the BEASTIE BOYS), and CHUCK TREECE (BLKTOP PROJECT,
MCRAD, BAD BRAINS). Previous releases on Mo'Wax, Galaxia, Function

Human Eye
Fragments of the Universe Nurse
PS, US Watching HUMAN EYE onstage is like being attacked by space
aliens. They are like something dreamed up by Philip K. Dick during
an acid flashback, a science fiction sound world with rock and roll
roots assaulting all of the senses. Their second full-length release,
Fragments of the Universe Nurse, continues their musical mission with
more mind-derailing time changes, laser-beam synthesizer blasts, hallucinatory
overdriven echoplex, and a generally brutal assemblage of disparate
elements from a sonic palette that ranges from mid-'70s punk rock
to psychedelia, prog, free jazz, and Sci-Fi movie sound effects. Writhing
giant robot snakes, huge illuminated plastic eyeballs, flying T.V.
sets, and exploding flourescent paint-filled balloons only heighten
the atmosphere of transformed reality and universal anxiety suggested
by Human Eye's music. The musical structures whirl and explode in
an entangled storm of opposites fusing together and colliding with
strange precision. On first listen, you might think you're hearing
traces of Beefheart, Germs, Chrome, Soupy Sales, the Residents, Hendrix,
Gentle Giant, and the Boredoms. By the second or third listen, you'll
(hopefully) be too disoriented to think, analyze, etc. Singer/guitarist

Kinda unbelievable in that same way that all "unbelievable"
things are, I mean how does this book exist?! "Do you get nostalgic
shivers down your spine when someone mentions the word punk? Are you
a real geek when it comes to record collecting? Have you ever wondered
what was out there -- deep in the underground of the Swedish punk
scene? Then this book is for you! Find out everything you want to
know about leading acts such as Ebba Grön, KSMB, Attentat, Anti
Cimex, Mob 47, Asta Kask and Strebers. But also about every other
band that ever released a record during the first ten years of punk
music! In this book you will find all the facts: line-ups, home towns,
biographies and complete, fully illustrated discographies with all
sleeves depicted in full color. The discographies detail variations
in vinyl pressings and covers, colored vinyl existence -- and just
about everything else of interest for any serious collector of Swedish
punk records. Finally, you get to see the full output from legendary
bands such as Vicious Visions, Shas, Absurd, Kriminella Gitarrer,
57 KEZ, Kessler Jugend, Bad Boo Band and other similar acts. Over
the years, early Swedish punk has obtained a cult reputation among
music fans all over the world and some records will fetch ridiculously
high prices at auctions. Those records were often pressed in a very
small series by private labels. This book includes Premium Publishing's
established price guide indication ratings, showing the current status
among collectors for each and every entry! It has taken the author
some ten years to collect the massive amount of information contained
in this book. Premium Publishing is now very proud to present the
definitive reference guide to all the recording acts during the first
ten innovative years of the Swedish punk era!"

This Is My Letter To The World
PS, US Singer-songwriter seems too common a term to apply to SARAH
JUNE, however accurate it may be. Singer-songwriter she is, but the
songs she writes and sings are both more beautiful and more haunting

Kid Montana
Temperamental + Singles
PS, UK LTM is pleased to announce a double CD set from Kid Montana,
the Belgian electronic pop duo who recorded a string of acclaimed
releases for chic label Les Disques du Crépuscule between 1984
and 1987. Temperamental + Singles gathers together the Temperamental
album from 1986 with six track mini-album The Las Vegas Gold Rush
and singles such as Revisiting Yalta, Spooky, Love May Be Blind and
Still Colour Waiting. Featured producers include Marc Moulin and dan
Lacksman (of Telex) and Gilbert Lederman (Berntholer). Digitally remastered,
the 31 track, 2 hour 2xCD compilation also includes all tracks from
the rare debut ep Today from 1982, and three tracks from a final unreleased
demo recorded in 1987. The CD also includes MPEG versions of the video
clips for Still Color Waiting and Spooky, directed by Serge Bergli.
Artist biography: Kid Montana was initially the nom de guerre of Jean-Marc
Lederman, formerly keyboard player with Digital Dance and Fad Gadget.
After an experimental debut EP on Sandwich Records in 1982, Lederman
spent time in London playing with The The and Gene Loves Jezebel,
before recruiting American-born singer Dudley Kludt for the second
Kid Montana single, Revisiting Yalta, in 1984. The following year
the duo signed with Les Disques du Crépuscule, releasing a
run of sophisticated electro-pop records, although mainstream success
eluded them. The duo split in 1987, Lederman afterwards recording
several hard electronic albums with The Weathermen, and with Julianne
Regan as Jules et Jim.

Lights Out Asia
Eyes Like Brontide
PS, US Once a band has developed a sound that is undeniably theirs
it can be difficult to push beyond those confines and expand the sound
into new territory. Lights Out Asia set out to do just that and have
succeeded in writing a record that was as much a sign of the times
as it was an expansion of their aural bubble that has been their watermark.
They have been called ethereal, post-shoegaze and sleep-rock, but
on their third full length "Eyes Like Brontide" the band
slides into a darker more ominous and less lucid dream than on previous
efforts. The release is a stylistic shift from the sweet lullabies
of their debut "Garmonia" (Sun Sea Sky) and the electronic
drum driven post-shoegaze of 2007's "Tanks and Recognizers"
(n5MD). The song dynamics on the album deserve special attention.
For the first time in Lights Out Asia's history they have gone for
broke with some of the most epic drum machine driven post-rock this
side of the Pacific along with solemn disconnected passages of dream
nourished sonic. The occasional floating vocal and dusty winding guitar
they are known for are still present, but "Eyes Like Brontide"
brings a whole new dimension to the Lights Out Asia ethos. Most importantly,
the band has expanded upon its sound without throwing away the original
blueprint or alienating its fan base. "Eyes Like Brontide"
is recommended for fans of Hammock, Bitcrush, Robin Guthrie and Manual.

Manhattan Love Suicides
Burnt Out Landscapes
PS, US "This Leeds foursome's fuzzed-out dream-pop recalls not
only JAMC, but also the willowy female vocals of C86 alumni the Shop
Assistants. However, rather than revive the sexualized gore of the
80s movie underground-- or the black-leather tropes of recent retro
noise-poppers like the Raveonettes-- the Manhattan Love Suicides'
elf-titled debut throbs with the giddy vulnerability of the scene
that the NME's C86 compilation helped spawn." Pitchfork. The
Manhattan Love Suicides have a mission. They want to write, record
and release songs on their own accord. The DIY ethic is in their blood.
The idea of getting their name out there by writing, recording, and
releasing as many songs as you can as a way of promotion is old fashioned
at best. This collection of songs is taken from the 4 singles they
released over last year with additional unreleased songs as well as
some live recordings. The Manhattan Love Suicides wear their influences
on their sleeves and never has Phil Spector's Wall of Sound met so
cohesively with Jesus and Mary Chain's. The hypnotic noise and feedback
are highlighted with a pounding beat and heart breaking female vocals.
Just when you are thinking the shoegaze drone will go on the hooks
come in and you hear the girl group sounds to keep you from zoning
out. For influences think Jesus and Mary Chain, Galaxie 500, The Velvet
Underground, The Rosehips, The Golden Dawn, Meat Whiplash... that
kind of stuff. Basically these are the bands that every hipster /record
store clerk covets in their own collection. The Manhattan Love Suicides
feature former members of the much buzzed about Leeds's band Pop Threat.
A much talked and written about band that sparked Sonic Youth and
Velvet Underground comparisons that released several singles, eps,
and tracks that ended up on compilations. Who's songs played by John
Peel landed them releases on Fierce Panda and Mook Records.

Reach Out
PS, US Like a bolt from Zeus, MUSIC GO MUSIC have struck again with
their new 12" single, 'Reach Out.' This outing finds them exploring
a darker side of pop music; the place where Deep Purple's brute force
meets the Carpenter's tragic wistfulness, where Blondie's power-hooks
cross melodic swords with Meat Loaf's drama-rock theatrics. They've
expanded their palette considerably, yet the sound is unmistakably
theirs, and the magic of it points the way to the light at the end
of the tunnel. 'Reach Out' is the monologue of a would-be savior,
offering to lift us from the pit of despair. It treks from Logan's
Run ambience to proto-metal riffing to disco-gallop to TV detective
funk and back again.

Near The Parenthesis
L'Eixample
PS, US Near the Parenthesis follows up 2007's "Of Soft Construction"
with "L'Eixample," Tim Arndt's most focused work to date.
L'Eixample draws on inspiration gained during travels through Barcelona,
Spain. Of particular interest was the innovative and sometimes peculiar
modernist architecture of the L'Eixample district. In Catalunyan,
L'Eixample literally means an extension, a strong symbolic parallel
to the music found on Arndt's latest work which itself reflects an
extension of the Near the Parenthesis' sound. While this collection
begins where "Of Soft Construction" left off, it quickly
migrates to an even calmer and more atmospheric experience. Through
L'Eixample, Arndt has moved closer to an emotional apex and provides
even greater melodic rewards.

Normanoak
Estra
PS, US NORMANOAK has another piece of vinyl to share with the world,
a true follow up to last year's "A Double Gift of Tongues".
This new album is called "Estra", named after a powerful
horned goddess whom Normanoak has been busy invoking recently in small
performance spaces around the country. Everything was recorded in
his bedroom in Bloomington, Indiana, on three different tape machines.
The music on "Estra" shows more variety than any of his
previous efforts. Chugging rock songs burn up into soft, dark dirges
that feature a uniquely made-up language code. Screaming minute-long
hardcore songs fade into freaky, fucked instrumentals. There is even
a song which curses the current state government, and their excessive
logging of Normanoak's home forests of Southern Indiana. Throughout
these 14 pieces, Normanoak takes on many personalities, such as his
alter-ego Poisonoak. Over time the listener can begin to notice the
shifts in perspective that the singer makes. Normanoak is more than
just another musician. His work is pure sorcery at its most successful.

Noyes Brothers, The
Sheep From Goats
PS, UK The Boutique Label presents the first ever CD reissue of Sheep
From Goats by The Noyes Brothers, originally released in 1980 on the
highly collectible Object Music label. The Noyes Brothers were Steve
Solamar of cult band Spherical Objects and Steve Miro, who also recorded
as a solo artist for Object. The album (a double set) as recorded
between October 1979 and May 1980 at Graveyard Studios, and contain
100 minutes of experiments and improvisations, ranging from Eno-esque
electronics to improvisation and side-long excursions such as A Good
Question and It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time. Released in July
1980 in a limited edition of 1000 copies, it sounds like little else
recorded before or since. Pioneering Manchester label Object Music
ceased operations in 1981, after Steve Solamar resolve a lifelong
contradiction by becoming a woman. As part of this process Solamar
even destroyed his own master tapes, and since then the Object catalogue
has languished in undeserved obscurity (with the exception of The
Passage). However an Object anthology has now been released as part
of the Auteur Labels series on LTM, as well as the complete Spherical
Objects back catalogue on CD. The artist formerly known as Steve Solamar
is alive and well, and lives a happy spiritual and musical life. Steve
Miro resides in Glastonbury.

Performing Ferrets
No One Told Us
PS, US Twenty-eight songs from one of DIY's iconic bands, including
most of their astonishingly scarce LP, which music-historian/journalist/DIY
enthusiast JOHAN KUGELBERG described as "the most seminal LP
to come out of DIY... Fantastic over-enthusiastic juvenilia of an
almost supernatural beauty." Whether or not the name was ironic,
THE PERFORMING FERRETS were very much a performing band-whose songs
clearly grew out of the way they interacted. A curious rhythm, an
engaging riff, an arresting lyrical snippet, and frequently a Melodica
tumble and writhe, ferret-like, into song / groove / experiments that
stood unique on the UK indie post-punk scene. There's a touch of The
Fall and the TV Personalities, a little garage and Beat, and a dry
wit that had more to do with the Ferrets' favorite authors and comedians
than anyone from the class of '77, but the Ferrets' response to D.I.Y.
was all their own. Include's a 12-page booklet, along with photos,
artifacts, and almost 80 minutes of the Ferrets' finest on the CD.

Prints
Just Thoughts
PS, US Quickly following their debut full-length, PRINTS return to
stir the pot with a little more pop, their usual dose of psychedlia
and an intoxicating amount of dance. Once again produced at home by
multi-instrumentalists Zac Nelson and KENSETH THIBIDEAU, the songs
here were originally conceived as b-sides for a proposed single for
"Too Much Water" from the group's eponymous debut. By the
time three new songs were completed, they stood too strong on their
own to be pushed out as b-sides, so the decision was made to forfeit
the single and instead offer the songs as a stand-alone EP. Meanwhile,
DFA cofounder and Hercules and Love Affair producer Tim Goldsworthy
fired up his new alter-ego Thee Loving Hand for an epic super-funk
remix of a pair of Prints tracks, "Pretty Tick" and "Meditation"
(featuring, among other things, the funk bass skills of !!!'s Tyler
Pope). To top it off, acclaimed visual artist Toben Seymour directed
an eye-popping video for "Too Much Water," which is included
here on the Enhanced CD portion of the disc.

Qua
Silver Red
PS, AUSTRALIA "Silver Red" has been an evolving piece of
music from Qua aka Cornel Wilzcek. Over the course of two years Silver
Red began to take shape, with the piano and guitar source material
originally recorded in 2005 at a live performance in Melbourne. This
source material was loaded into an ever-growing custom software patch
controlled by a French invention, the Lemur - a multi-touch, programmable
screen - that eventually became the backbone of the composition. While
it evokes ideas from Steve Reich, Philip Glass and other rhythmic
minimalist composers, it also owes much to colorful explorations of
artists such as Moondog and Roberto Cacciapaglia. In 2007, Laurence
Pike, of Sydney bands Pivot (Warp Records) and Triosk (Leaf Records),
took to the drums performing with Qua live and in the studio. As well
as playing on Qua's upcoming pop album, Laurence played a one take
drum part that was then loaded into the custom Qua software patch
and re-performed by Cornel, thus lending it the same treatment as
the other source material. "One Second" is a reaction to
"Silver Red". It felt necessary to somehow resolve the album
and boil it down to a few simple sounds. It looks at Silver Red from
the view point of artists such as Ennio Morricone, Kristoff Komeda
and Scott Walker and somehow extrudes one second of time from Silver
Red.

Discoballs: A Disco Tribute To Pink Floyd [re-issue]
PS, US Back in 1979, way before the flood of tribute albums swamped
your local record store's bins, this curiosity featuring disco versions
of Pink Floyd songs came out on Warner Bros. Now, usually when you
put the words 'disco' and 'tribute' together in the same phrase, the
result is not going to be pretty. What does, however, make this album
reissue-worthy is that two of the folks behind this, Claude Engel
and Jannick Top, were members of the legendary French prog group Magma,
and they were no doubt instrumental in the adventurous choice of tunes
on this record. Sure, 'Money' and 'Have a Cigar', which was a minor
hit, are not such a stretch, but disco versions of 'Interstellar Overdrive',
'Arnold Layne' and 'One of These Days'?! Not even Syd Barrett in his
wildest dreams could have imagined such a thing! It's easily the most
danceable Pink Floyd album ever!

PS, US Saw these dudes for the first time as a cohesive unit at a

pedals, and a couple of guitars tuned to untuned. from second one
though the most enormous sounds ruptured through the room. i mean,
shit was gigantic. every once in a blue moon you could think to yourself
"oh, i think that sound is coming from that", but usually
it was just a vulgar mess. asked to do a tape while smoking weed out

Being Nice Won't Save Milwaukee
PS, US "Being Nice Won't Save Milwaukee isn't an album about
saving Milwaukee, which is exactly why it will..." Straight from
the mouth of Quinn Scharber, a take on what it's like to be in a band
in a city that can either say 'yay' or 'nay' in a heartbeat. A very
fickle nest in which to drop your album into if you're the sort of
band who are frail of heart. Fortunately, this isn't the case for
the members of Milwaukee's proprietors of a particularly engaging
blend of garage, blues and power pop: strong hearts, worn on sleeves.
The band's ideals and sound has influences wrought by Teenage Fanclub,
Big Star, The Replacements, Wilco and even The Jesus and Mary Chain.
Having honed their songwriting skills in Milwaukee bands such as The
Nice Outfit, The Static Model and Menlo, The Quinn Scharber's have
brought these experiences to the practice space and used them to form
a solid set of songs. Stories about latest flames, drinking and giving
life a fighting chance are all storied along by Scharber's young Paul
Westerberg vocals.
