31Knots
Worried Well
PS, US Further explorations of "post-apocalyptic Vaudevillian
punk" and demented pop, but with a twist. Plainly stated, 31Knots
hasn't moved in a new direction so much as they've ripened to full
maturity, evolved into the creature they're meant to be. Previous
efforts are just as tightly wrapped, just as fierce and incendiary.
But something is different. Something here is new. It deserves to
be called out as thought provoking and well written music in a time
when substance is quickly giving way to music of commerce and palatability.
There is no band like 31Knots and Worried Well finds them at the full
height of their powers.

5th Dimension
The Magic Garden
PS, UK Wow! Here at Rev-Ola we're proud to present this true undisputed
classic of orchestrated, psych-tinged soft pop. The 5th Dimension
are one of the most successful American bands of the late '60s. Hey,
everybody knows their hit versions of 'Up, Up And Away' and 'Aquarius'!
However, in 1968 they were teamed up with producer Bones Howe and
wunderkind composer/arranger/all-round bona fide musical genius beyond
redoubt, Jimmy Webb, who presented them with a complex song cycle
based on his own tumultuous relationship with his partner. Nestling
between such dyed-in-the-wool classics as 'Carpet Man', 'The Girls'
Song', 'The Worst That Could Happen' (which all became hit singles
for other artists) and the life-affirming title track (as covered
by Dusty Springfield no less) are such lesser-spotted Webb gems as
'Summer's Daughter' and 'Paper Cup'. The whole cycle is linked with
beautifully ornate pieces of orchestration, sitar flourishes and ethereal
vocals. The contractual obligation inclusion of an earlier recording
of The Beatles' 'Ticket To Ride' was originally shoehorned into the
middle of the running order but we've taken the liberty of shuffling
it to the end so it no longer interrupts the flow of the cycle.

Bipolaroid
'E(i)ther Or'
PS, US Amid the local masses of hornblowers, washboard scratchers
and swamp-pop stars, Ben Glover stands out like, well, the one guy
making pastoral, British Invasion psych/rock in a southern jazz-and-zydeco
province. His band Bipolaroid made a grand entrance with 2003's Transparent
Make-believe, likely the most authentic Syd Barrett shrine ever to
emerge from the muddy banks of the Mississippi. Reborn as a five-piece
band, the group finally follows up its singular gem with an album
whose mark remains the same but whose aim has shifted slightly. E(i)ther
Or is an altogether messier, more chaotic affair " intentionally
so, Glover might add. The songwriter sings in a blurry slur, with
a sleepy, faux-English accent that frames vintage-sounding instruments
and paisley melodies in a perfectly hazy Pink Floyd daydream.

Black To Comm
Fractal Hair Geometry
PS, GERMANY Black To Comm is the solo venture of Dekorder label boss
Marc Richter. With two and a half albums released on his own label
he has established himself as one of the most prolific drone artists
out there with a forthcoming album on the American Digitalis label,
a collaborative CD with Datashock on Ikuisuus, a 7" on the Irish
Trensmat label and a collaboration with Xela in the works "Fractal
Hair Geometry" is Richter's most refined and original work to
date, picking up where the electrifying drone works of his monumental
Double-LP left off. Like the last records this album is centered around
recordings of a variety of vintage organs. While "Wir können
leider..." often featured pure harmonium sounds and spacious
recordings of chuch organ and mellotron, the new album opts for a
more electronic, effects-laden sound, sending an old Farfisa Compact
Deluxe and Casio SK-5 through an armada of analogue & digital
effects pedals. The results are massive one-chord drones layered into
dense & ecstatic, flickering & pulsating clusters of psychedelic
electronic sound. Additional wordless vocal effects, hyperventilating
& sizzling drum machines and hypnotic violin and guitar noises
make for a hyperactive sound that never stands still even though most
of the music is pure drones (sometimes consisting of more than 50
recording layers). Decidedly simple but gorgeous melodies shine through
the mist from time to time, making a Black To Comm record always much
more accessible than your average drone album. There's even a heavy
4/4 bass drum smuggled into a track dedicated to the late Leigh Bowery,
one of the most enigmatic creative figures of the mid-80's UK club
scene (and singer of Minty). Guests include Jonna Karanka (aka Kuupuu)
on piano, Guido Möbius on trumpet and current Black To Comm (live)
band members Renate Nikolaus on violin and Ulf Schütte (of Datashock,
Aosuke, etc.) adding electronic sounds. Along the lines of the music,
seminal German artist Oliver Ross has created a massive multi-layered
neon-coloured collage artwork that is printed on special ultra-heavy
cardboard stock.

Bongripper finds these hippy-hostile gents conjuring epic, instrumental,
proto-stoner manifestos that span riff-laden doom, spacey postrock
jams, inebriating psych weirdness, sublime ambient gravitas and outright
noise/drone freefall. Playing from their grinding guts they have created
an album of nameless songs that drives like a ginormous tank-treaded
weaponized concept car in Hades. I don't doubt that Pelican is scared
of Bongripper's musical molten lava, they are a twee-pop band in comparison.
Electric Wizard isn't scared exactly, but then again they don't have

Carter, Susan
Wonderful Dreams And Adventures
PS, UK Along with the likes of Jackie DeShannon, Cass Elliot and Joni
Mitchell, Susan Carter was an integral part of the late 1960s Laurel
Canyon scene, a veritable "Lady Of The Canyon". Carter captured
the attention of Epic Records, who teamed her with producer Les Carter
and arranger Dick Halligan (of Blood, Sweat & Tears fame). Recorded
in New York, her 1970 debut Wonderful Deeds and Adventures - A Collection
of Stirring Scene and Moving Accidents was certainly that and more...
something of an era timepiece. It was also interesting in that, with
backing from Randy Brecker and most of BS&T, material such as
Donovan's 'Young Girl Blues', James Taylor's 'Brighten Your Day with
My Night' and 'Medley for Billie Holiday' found Carter working in
the blues and jazz genres years before Joni Mitchell and other contemporaries
made such a move. Carter certainly had a powerful and versatile voice,
capable of handling a wide variety of genres and her crystalline voice
occasionally recalled Laura Nyro.

Shots At Infinity
PS, US Comprised of recordings from various basements in the northeastern
US from late 2007. Steering away from the more delicate string environments
& modal folk improvisations of previous CDs, the disc features
maximum loop delay drone overload stretched over long, densely harmonic
tracks, retaining the melodic content & flow of earlier releases.
His solo work covers a lot of territory, but latter-day sightings
show him concentrating on looped guitar drones of immensely stacked
beauty, w/heaps of psychedelic melodic content missing from the repertoires
of many noise & drone bands.

Shots At Infinity 2
PS, US This is the companion release to the Tom Carter CD titled Shots
At Infinity 1 being release on Important simultaneously. Shots at
Infinity 2 is two long live tracks in the same mode as Shots At Infinity
1, but more cut loose and blown out, recorded in Nemo Bidstrup's record
store and Burnt Hills' basement jam zone. Tom Carter is a guitar player
best known for his work with acclaimed psych-drone iconoclasts Charalambides.
Since 2000, however, he has become increasingly active as not only
a solo artist but as a collaborator. He has performed with improvising
musicians as diverse as Thurston Moore, Jandek, Tetuzi Akiyama, Matt
Valentine, and many others, as well as being a key member in groups
like Badgerlore (with Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance), Friday
Group, Mudsuckers (with Robert Horton and the Yellow Swans), and Zaika
(with Marcia Bassett of the Double Leopards and Hototogisu). Carter's
solo work covers a lot of territory, but latter-day sightings show
him to be concentrating on looped guitar drones of immensely stacked
beauty, with heaps of psychedelic melodic content missing from the
repertoires of many noise and drone bands. His influences include
everyone from LaMonte Young to David Crosby.

Cocteau, Jean & Les Six
Once Upon A Time
PS, UK Paris 1919. Playwright, novelist, poet, surrealist, filmmaker
and self-publicist Jean Cocteau was the literary spokesman for Les
Six. With his endorsement, and the inspiration of Erik Satie and fired
by the principles of Dada and surrealism, the group, comprising Francis
Poulenc, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Georges Auric, Germaine
Tailleferre and Louis Durey, expressed their irreverence towards the
twin specters of lifeless tradition and bloodless modernism. They
embraced the previously forbidden worlds of popular song, 'primitive'
music and jazz and in so doing, helped purge the classical music establishment
of its deeply ingrained snobbery and pave the way for generations
of iconoclasts - in classical, jazz and rock music - still to come.
Our edition comprises famous examples of the work of this group of
composers who so scandalized twenties Paris Pacific 231, Les Biches,
Le Boeuf sur le Toit and La Creation du Monde along with themes from
Georges Auric's scores for Cocteau's the very influential surrealistic
film fantasies; Orphée (Orpheus), La belle et la bête
(Beauty and the Beast) and L'aigle à deux têtes (The
Eagle has Two Heads).

Cold Sun
Dark Shadows
PS, US "First time available on CD, Cold Sun from Austin, Texas
was recorded in 1970 in the legendary Sonobeat studios, where the
Mariani and Johnny Winter first LPs were produced. The Cold Sun band
are considered contemporaries of Velvet Underground and The Fugs,
often listed as being in a similar vein but inspirations for this
unique piece actually go back to the desperate, haunted Joe Meek.
All songs lyrically express dark, mystic poetry with the true '60s
psychedelic floating/distorted fuzz spirit presented in short compact
mini-epics along with several mind blowing long tunes, such as 'Ra-Ma'
(11 min.), 'Here In The Year' (9 min.) and 'Fall' (7 min.). Discovered
by Rockadelic Records of Dallas, Texas in 1991, the Dark Shadows album
saw the light of day the next year as a limited LP version, to become
today one of the most important and revered US psychedelic underground
albums from the early '70s. Rockadelic heard it in the form of an
old scratchy acetate that one of the Cold Sun band members had made
in order to be able to play the recording at friends` parties on their
turntables. The acetate only contained 2/3 of the songs but so greatly
impressed them that Rockadelic managed together with bandleader Bill
Miller to release the complete sessions from master tapes. Autoharp
wizard Miller eventually spearheaded Roky Erickson's international
debut as the Cold Sun band joined forces with Roky in 1974 and became
BliebAlien, later evolved into The Aliens and backed Roky on his famous
albums and historical concerts. Carefully remastered from the master
tapes, this album will bring new rewarding listening experiences in
expanded fidelity, plus 2 unreleased non-album songs, authentic Live/Concert
recordings of 'Live Again' (10 min.) and 'Mind Aura' (7 min.). The
fidelity of these reel to reel live recordings is also remarkable.
The CD and Vinyl issues will both have an extended booklet/insert
with liner notes by Jello Biafra plus rare photos and other surprises.
According to Patrick (Lama) Lundborg from Lysergia.com: 'Best Rockadelic
LP ever, and in my opinion the best Texas LP of the time.' Enjoy this
ONE-HOUR psychedelic Happening, a 'must-have' '60s/'70s heavy uber-psych
masterpiece!"

whispers of "Future Ghost," Cross has created an album full

are back and ushering in a rockin return to form with Earth to the

allows you to fully enjoy the trip while still keeping you on your

PS, GERMANY Deluxe 3CD box set edition of these albums, previously
issued on vinyl by Shadoks. These 3 CDs will also be available separately,
but this version puts these together in a heavy cardboard box, like
the Blops CD on Shadoks. This box set edition is limited to 300 copies.
Shadoks Music presents all three records by Freedom's Children, now
collected together, after two years of struggle and hard work with
tons of help from collectors in South Africa, England, Austria and
the U.S.A. Since all mastertapes were lost in a big fire, they had
to be mastered from the original vinyl, using two or three mint copies
of each album to make the best possible sounding product. All three
albums are the most wanted albums ever from South Africa. Some call
them "The Pink Floyd of South Africa," and if the political
situation in S.A. at that time would have been easier, they would
have had the same status in the international music market as Pink
Floyd. Beautifully composed songs, amazing instrumentation, well-crafted
guitar work and great singers. The extra-heavy prog sound beats most
albums in the same direction coming from the UK or U.S.A. Three absolute
masterpieces. LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!!

Golden Animals
Free Your Mind And Win A Pony
PS, US Golden Animals have delivered their debut album, " Free
Your Mind And Win A Pony." The album is 11 tracks deep, entrenched
with pre-war blues influenced, classic rock and roll. Fans of their
sold out E.P. will dig the sonic transition of this mystical, desert
dwelling, rock and roll duo. Produced by Chris Coady. (Yeah Yeah Yeah's,
T.V On The Radio, Entrance) mixed by Thom Monahan (Devendra Banhart,
Vetiver) The music press have been quite impressed- "Make no
mistake: this is psychedelic pop-rock for the flower generation, still
going strong in 2008. It is pure old style California: all guitar
driven attitude, and bluesy stomp. " Bearded. Press Coverage
includes Blender, NME, Mojo, Anthem, Dazed and Confused, and Drowned
in Sound. Pitchfork called Golden Animals a "dusty California
guitar nugget." Available in CD wallet or 180 Gram LP. (limited
500 press). Produced by Chris Coady (TV on The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs).
Mixed By Thom Monahan (Pernice Brothers, Devendra Banhart). Press
Quotes: "When they rock out in the faux-blues readymade "The
Steady Roller," you can practically inhale the pungent aroma
of their pirate shirts. They're a marriage made in psychedelic desert-blues
heaven." Blender "unpolished sound from ghostly echoes of
60's West Coast Psychedelia 50's rock and roll and swampy old blues.
They have a nice, semi-chaotic way about them" Mojo "Their
ragged eclecticism is a winning one, taking detours into slide country,
beat up folk and starry desert ballads" Uncut "Make no mistake:
this is psychedelic pop-rock for the flower generation, still going
strong in 2008. It is pure old style California: all guitar driven
attitude and bluesy stomp. Free Your Mind and Win a Pony has got all
the hip-slung fun and holler of alt scene favourites, The White Stripes,
but presents itself without dark edges." Bearded "Psychedelic
blues-rock, long on reverb and chugga-lugga drum/guitar rhythms okayed
by the light of a baritone moon" Independent on Sunday "Delicately
crafted songs such as such as Follow Me Down are interspersed with
chugging psychedelic blues and infectious, mescalin-aroundthe- campfire
feel." The Guardian "Transcends the limitations of their
rudimentary set up. Album highlight "Queen Mary (The Flop) features
multiple tempo changes and builds to an electrifying frenzy which
must go down a storm in a live setting. "Ride Easy" begins
as a tender country plodder, but undertakes several detours with satisfying
results" DrownedInSound.com "An intense blend of scratchy
blues riffs, woozy psych, and walloped drums" NME "They
know how to riff with atomic force" Dazed and Confused

Hanson, Jeff
Madam Owl
PS, US This album does not mark a radical departure from his previous
two records, as the essential elements are still here. The bare acoustic
prettiness of his debut "Son" and the handcrafted pop cleverness
of "Jeff Hanson" have been developed further. And, like
its predecessors, this release contains a set of pop-music symphonies,
each one of which feels like it could be the record's single.

June, Sarah
This Is My Letter To The World
PS, US Singer-songwriter seems too common a term to apply to SARAH
JUNE, however accurate it may be. Singer-songwriter she is, but the
songs she writes and sings are both more beautiful and more haunting
than the average fare. There is an uncommon ghostly air to her album.
Like the smell of flowers in a empty and abandoned house where sunlight
comes shining through dusty window panes. Perfectly sparse and lonesome,
these songs come from the edges of dreamland.

Laghonia
Glue
PS, Germany "The core of Laghonia is a combination of Peruvian
and US members, Saul Cornejo Vocals, Guitar, Manuel Cornejo on Drums,
and David Levene on Lead Guitar and Vocals. All eight album tunes
were released on 45´s under the group name New Juggler Sound.
When the band changed name into Laghonia in 1970 the Glue album came
out as a kind of New Juggler Sound 45 rpm compilation. The music is
catchy psychedelic Rock´n´Roll stuff, with lyrics in English,
intense fuzz, wah-wah Guitars, Hammond B-2 organ and a massive, variative
percussion sounds. The songwriting is Beatles/Yardbirds-influenced
and the music goes into Santana, Cream, Hendrix and other different
directions. 4 bonus tracks and a bio round off this masterpiece of
the complete New Juggler Sound recordings perfectly. Comes in a high
quality digipak cover (same material as the Mystic Siva CD) with an
extra 8 page booklet and amazing original artwork by M. Cornejo. Both

Lykke Li
Youth Novels
PS, US New album from hyped Swedish siren! ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Advance
hype fueled by the Little Bit EP had Lykke Li pegged as the next in
a growing string of cool-kid-approved perfect-pop fixes to leak out
from Sweden's endless supply, but Youth Novels doesn't entirely play
out as expected, with neither Robyn's electronic dance-pop precision
nor the affable strumming of Jens Lekman or Peter Björn and John
(whose Björn Yttling handles production duties here and co-wrote
every track). Although it does bear some traces of these approaches,
as well as El Perro Del Mar's earnest melancholia, it's decidedly
odder and harder to pin down, proffering an idiosyncratic, stripped-down
vision of pop that foregrounds repetition and simplicity over familiarity
or even melody (though rest assured, there is ample catchiness to
be had here)."

Makoto, Kawabata & Michishita Shinsuke
Basement Echo
PS, US Basement Echo is the historical meeting point of two generations
of the Japanese underground. Kawabata Makoto, leader of The Acid Mothers
Temple, and Michishita Shinsuke, leader of LSD March, are together
here for the first time in a guitar duo. Though Kawabata and Michishita
are from the same scene the fact that they are from different generation
means that they bring different energy to the collaborations. This
fact is extremely exciting for Kawabata who refers to Michishita as
"one of the most promising musicians in the Japanese Underground."
Both artists agree that Basement Echo was a step into the unknown
with neither really knowing what the resulting sounds would be. For
Michishita the collaborations have been a dream come true. He describes
Kawabata as having a "soul of rock that never burns out."
After the recordings were complete the two friends sat down and raised
a triumphant toast. Recorded at Snowflake Sound in Sapporo in October
of 2007. Totally improvised with no editing/overdubbing. Designed
by Darryl Norsen.

Spirit of Elijah
PS, UK "Their really good one, West Coasty Christian rock reminiscent
of the best tracks on the Rainbow Promise LP and solid all through.
Well-written songs combine perfectly with the jammy SF ballroom sound
popular among the Jesus Music bands, recalling the mellow aspects
of Moby Grape in particular. The epic, spine-chilling title track
is especially good. A loose, understated live in the basement recording
adds to the appeal. This album is undoubtedly one of the classics
from the era." --Acid Archives. "As with all Erebus Records

ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Music dictated not by
logic but by intuition, Yerself Is Steam is an album at war with itself,
split by its desire to achieve both melodic pop bliss and white-noise
transcendence within the same space; it succeeds brilliantly, avant-bubblegum
fuel injected by fits and flourishes of prismatic chaos. From the
comic malevolence of David Baker's mad-scientist creations to Jonathan
Donahue's opiate lullabies, Yerself Is Steam is vividly cinematic
-- between the roller coaster feedback of "Coney Island Cyclone"
and the narcoleptic ebb and flow of the climactic "Very Sleepy
Rivers," the songs perfectly evoke their titular aspirations;
likewise, from the album title (say it out loud) onward, the lyrics
revel in the quirks and idiosyncrasies of language, buoyed by a homophonous
prankishness and dada rhyme schemes, which, in their own odd way,
suggest a kind of poetry. A near-perfect debut from a band that would
only get better from here on out... Some foreign releases include
the bonus disc Lego My Ego, a crazy quilt knitted together from unlikely
covers (Sly Stone's "If You Want Me to Stay," Miles Davis'
"Shhh/Peaceful"), Peel Sessions highlights, and wonderfully
loopy studio chatter."

Don t Be A Stranger
PS, US Seattle's Moondoggies play timeless American music. Warm three-part
harmonies, gothic Rhodes organ, and wanderlust guitar mark a sound
rooted in boogie blues and cosmic country. Whipsmart songwriting leads
to hook-heavy tunes that bristle with originality. Shades of gospel,
blues, rock, and country commingle, and wall-of-sound harmonies radiate
joy and passion. The influences of The Band, The Byrds, and especially
early Grateful Dead are evident, though The Moondoggies' lyrical economy
and compositional sensibility render these tracks fresh and unique.

Long Night
PS, US Long Night, a two-and-a-half-hour electronic drone work produced
by JIM O'ROURKE in 1990 around the time of his graduation from music
school had been buried in the archives along with several other electronic
music pieces Jim had created before he went about to explore other
musical territories. Unearthed, remastered and now released for the
first time-its ageless qualities shine as brightly as ever.

Outrageous Cherry
Wide Awake in the Spirit World: Best Of Outrageous Cherry
PS, US ALL MUSIC GUIDE: "Detroit psychedelic pop outfit Outrageous
Cherry have been crafting their own version of the Nuggets box since
they dropped their reverb-drenched self-titled debut on Bar/None in
1994. Driven by the immaculate pop craftsmanship of guitarist/singer
Matthew Smith, the group's penchant for early-Bee Gees melodies, Velvet
Underground freakouts, and Galaxie 500-induced dream sequences changed
little throughout the years, which makes the career-spanning Wide
Awake in the Spirit World: The Best of Outrageous Cherry -- released
on Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records no less -- such a solid
listen."

Pets, The
Misdirection
PS, US The Pets are full of smart hooks and contagious songs. Featuring
a pedigreed lineup of Zack from the FM Knives, Vince from Short Eyes,
and Dan Wood (a close relative of the Spits' Erin & Sean Wood
for those keeping track...) from Right On. These guys know exactly
how to turn your stomach and create some really epizootic waves of
deliriously dirty pop snarl. Not content to retread the paths of any
of their previous bands, the Pets are all on the same page and their
simple and voraciously catchy songs will knock you into submission
over and over again on each side of this record.

Phantasia
Phantasia
PS, US Reissue of US psychedelic ultra rarity recorded 1971/72. The
original albums (a complete one and a one-sided) are legends for all
psychedelic/garage collectors, only 25 copies pressed of each -- not
many people have the pleasure of having seen a copy. The music is
creeping slowly and sensitively in your mind, whether stoned or not
ö it takes you wherever you want. Those are the complete sessions,
55mins in mastertape quality presented the first time to the public
-- extremely informative booklet (20 sided), with outstanding artwork
and color photos. One of the best Psychedelic albums, playing in the
same league as Fraction, Music Emporium, Hunger, Mystic Siva, Damon.
Later the band changed into Trizo 50 that will also be released on
WIS. For us unbelievable that this extremely talented band didn't
make it.

Pink Reason
Winona
PS, US "During a show with hardcore punks Hatefuck, DeBroux and
company traveled to Winona, Minnesota. After a five-hour drive to
the town, wasted locals, angry punks and gnarled three-legged dogs
greeted them
by leading them into a commandeered park. Inside the park, DeBroux
found "the ultimate punk rock experience" with townies huffing
rubber glue and mohawk-brandishing kids starting fights with crusties.
The show ended and the locals gave the band three dollars for their
troubles. A few kids asked DeBroux and company to chip in the three
dollars on a keg. Soon, the crowd dispersed and left the band with
no money or place to stay. The band wound up sleeping on an island
between Minnesota and Wisconsin and breaking up soon thereafter. He
wrote the first Pink Reason song, "Winona," about this experience."

Plastic Crimewave Sound
Plastic Crimewave Sound
PS, US At last, a new LP from Chicago's spacepunk purveyors! Following
'06s sprawling double concept LP, No Wonderland, this is perhaps their
most consistent and paint-peeling statement yet. These tracks were
captured with little studio trickery, in a live-type fashion, a set
of bellowing free-fest scuzzrock, biker boogie, Kraut-style dirges,
cosmic communal jams, and fist-pumping no-anthems. This is easily
the most seriously rocking Plastic Crimewave Sound line-up yet, with
hot new leads courtesy of Nick D'vyne, and the solid backbone of PCW
(guitarscrawl, yelps) Mark Lux (bass rumblage, electronix) and Lawrence
(Skog Device) Peters (drum). Folks have actually been clamoring for
this line-up to lay it down to wax (especially the aforementioned
anthemic cut 'Shockwave Rider') for some time, so get ready to explode
into space. Limited edition one-time pressing.

Pocahaunted
Island Diamonds
PS, US There's a working theory out there about Pocahaunted: either
every record they've released is a concept album, or none of them
are. There's good proof to support both camps. The truth, of course,
might lie somewhere in between the two (if that's possible -- which
it probably isn't), but Island Diamonds makes a stronger case for
the former. The ladies' longstanding studio union with Eagle Rock
guru Bobb Bruno has explored an array of terrains in the past, but
their partnership on Diamonds... transformed Pocahaunted into a way
weirder, doper, and dancier creature than ever before, inspired in
equal parts by Manda's obsession with Max Romeo tropical soul and
bad acid jazz and Bethany's abiding love of mainstream rap and the
Cocteau Twins (that sounds like it'd be a nightmare, right?). Naturally,
the results don't really resemble any of the influences they may have
attempted to channel during these sessions, but so what? Low-lidded
drum machine beats, sparse guitar chimes, and the occasional air-raid
siren cycle beneath a night sky of cooing, crying, and caterwauling
in the classic PHAUNT mode/model. This CD digipak edition is a repress
of the sold out LP on Arbor, with all new collage-portrait artwork
by the band, plus two bonus tracks added on (one an outtake from the
Diamonds sessions, one the unedited mix of their Bored Fortress 7"
single) and a freaky digital music video for 'Ashes Is White' created
by part-time Pocahaunted bassist/best friend Luis Naranjo. Edition
of 500.

PS, US Their self-titled EP (sold mostly at venues) & the dark-edged
joyfulness of their live shows (which feature a kickass co-ed bass-guitardrums-vocal-cello-violin

full-length debut, which features 9 originals & the best Kate

with the syncopated new wave of the Police and toss in stringed orchestral
instruments like cello and violin. You won't hear anything on The

Shapeshifter Slave
PS, US Shapeshifters are messengers and imitators of the gods. Shapeshifters
can be divine or human. Crossing boundaries between sacred and evil,
they often bring messages, power or punishment from the gods. Shapeshifting
is used to gain access to the tower. They are able to turn any situation
around. Nothing is too much or too little. The shapeshifter can invert
a life-threatening situation into one where he triumphs. This form
of shapeshifting is most commonly painless but can be traumatic if
the change was unintentional; clothing is rarely lost in this process.

Rodriguez
Cold Fact
PS, US It's one of the lost classics of the '60s, a psychedelic masterpiece
drenched in colour & inspired by life, love, poverty, rebellion,
and, of course, "jumpers, coke, sweet mary jane". The album
is Cold Fact & what's more intriguing is that its maker - a shadowy
figure known as Rodriguez - was, for many years, lost too. A decade
ago, he was rediscovered working on a Detroit building site, unaware
that his defining album had become not only a cult classic, but for
the people of South Africa, a beacon of revolution. Co-produced by
Beastie Boys/Mos Def sample heavy guitarist Dennis Cofffey. Featuring
legendary Motown players The Funk Bros. This album is mastered from
the original tapes with new deluxe packaging, including a 36 page
booklet with unseen photos, archival material & new notes including
interviews with Rodriguez.

Shades Of Brown
S. O. B.
PS, US "A lost nugget from the Chicago soul scene, and one of
the rarest '70s albums on Chess! The album's filled with great tracks
in a range of soul styles -- sweet, funky, and Northern Soul -- all
wrapped together with a tightness that rivals The Dells or Temptations
at their best, and topped with harmony vocals that are simply mindblowing.
Producer Bobby Miller really helps the group find their groove --
and arrangements by Richard Evans and Charles Stepney tie the whole
thing together beautifully. All tracks are originals, and completely
fresh -- the kind of lost soul tunes you'd normally find only by digging
through a pile of rare 45s. Sampled famously by Tribe Called Quest
and others -- and reissued here for the first time ever!"

Snakegrinder
Snakegrinder & The Shredded Fieldmice
PS, US "Every burg in the '70s that had a steady supply of weed
and electricity undoubtedly provided a birthing ground for the formation
of bands influenced by the likes of Jerry Garcia and Lowell George,
and the Delaware area was no different. What was different was that
our subjects-at-hand got it together and in 1977 released an unassuming
document for posterity, containing nothing but original, winding (dare
we say 'snake-like?') compositions and good vibes throughout. Since
then, the album has garnered accolades from the Acid Archives crowd
and so we felt the time was right to give the group's efforts a proper
(and properly licensed from the band) presentation, with an 'old-style'
heavy mini-LP sleeve and thick booklet containing pics, gig posters,
song lyrics and liner notes by producer and long-time fan, Gregor

tracks from the same era, and everything you hear (album and bonus)

Souls On Board
Blood Face
PS, AUSTRALIA Like some unholy breeding ground, SOULS ON BOARD are
loyal to an ever-evolving matrimony - beauty and dirt, ugliness and
invention, dumb and smart, mind-blowing power and grace. BLOOD FACE
is the new EP, the Melbourne group's second release after their "hurtling
and assured" self-titled EP debut of 2005. Released by wunderkinds
Low Transit Industries, the EP saw the band draw comparisons to The
Pixies & Sonic Youth. BLOOD FACE picks up the hazardous extremes
of that first rugged EP and beats them into a new shape. A shape with
pointed edges, electricity in the veins and a wall of psychedelic
sound bubbling under a whip-smart guitar bleed section. While the
tunes bulge with shining phrases & stirring twists, lyrically
BLOOD FACE grapples with dark visions and uncomfortable realities
- these ills given some respite by the pop playfulness of the 6 tracker.
